Company Updates

  • Fourth comes 2nd as an employer of choice - THE 20 COMPANIES WITH THE BEST WORKPLACE CULTURE AND LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT –named by CMI & Glassdoor. Coming proudly in 2nd place in the new ranking ourselves here at Fourth, which promotes a split leadership structure, clearly distinguishing between two types of manager: the technical specialists and the people specialists.

  • In our debut entry into Best Companies, we made the Top 100. What makes this extra special for us is, given the rarity of companies placing on the top 100 list in their first year, we are absolutely delighted.

Fourth – Why Work For Us?

What is it like to work at Fourth?

We pride ourselves on the culture we have created and we work hard to ensure this is never compromised. Fourth is a place where our people want to work; where they enjoy and develop in their roles; where our people pull together to work as a team and ultimately be a company we are all proud to be a part of. We even asked our people what they loved about working here and the highest response was “the people”! Want to know how our current employees describe Fourth? Here are just a few of the words used: fun, relaxed, ambitious, supportive, challenging, professional, and enjoyable. As well as that, here are some quotes from our current people:

“I like working at Fourth because… Fourth is a unique business, with a unique culture! Each and every day is a collaborative effort of all 350 team members to deliver market-leading, best in class SAAS products to challenging international clients. Fourth has an ethos of nurturing the potential of its most valuable resource, our people, with leaders empowered to implement business change and drive our high performance culture.”

Benjamin Lee, P&P Projects Lead

Why us?

Fourth is no ordinary software business. Fundamentally, we believe happiness drives success not the other way round. That is why instead of trying to simply ‘retain’ employees we focus our energy on creating an environment and ethos that inspires people to deliver their best work every day. We know the sum of all our efforts is greater than the individual parts which is why we pull together to be a company of which we can all be proud.

By developing innovative products, building relationships with our customers and enabling great careers, we are focused on building lifetime loyalty between Fourth, our customers and each other. When recruiting, we look for those who want to join our journey – those that will naturally thrive with us because our values are also their values. Whilst we attract people from all corners of the world and backgrounds, the glue that binds us together is energy, enthusiasm, ambition professionalism and care. In simple terms, we look for people who want to be that bit better at what they do every day and help us achieve the same. Working at Fourth provides an opportunity to build a successful career where you will develop, be challenged and grow immensely, in a dynamic, fast paced environment.

Benefits:

When putting together our benefits package we asked our current employees what was important to them so we could offer a competitive program that catered for everyone’s needs. We therefore have a great Wellness (health, dental, vision) package, a generous holiday and pension package, a cycle to work scheme, season ticket loan and great parenting benefits. We are always reviewing this package for continuous improvements so watch this space!

Employee Development:

As mentioned above, the development of our employees is absolutely key for us as a business. We want people to naturally thrive at Fourth but we also want to offer comprehensive learning and development to increase employee’s skill sets for the future. We recently launched a fantastic learning, development and reward program called House of Excellence which has been a great success comprising of skills academies for both soft and technical development, reward and recognition and a management training program.

The time has come for another key player to join the Fourth family – our brand new R&D centre in Sofia, located at Capital Fort. In Sofia we are creating a primary, next generation R&D centre of 100+ professionals, as we see so many talented people among you. For our products, we mostly use the Microsoft web stack, and we strive for continuous improvement on all fronts.

Fourth is a vibrant company that understands the importance of staff welfare. We are stringent in our recruitment to ensure that, as well as experience and ability, we search for the right individuals. We heavily invest in training and developing our staff to ensure that they can deliver and support our cutting-edge solutions effectively. Having fun and building great relationships within the team and with our customers is a must.

Established in 1999, Fourth was conceived by hospitality professionals for hospitality professionals.

As serial restaurateurs, Derek and Edwina Lilley were acutely aware of the disparate and fragmented nature of the sector and challenged themselves to develop tools that hospitality businesses could use to manage their operations more professionally and profitably.

So they set about developing a software system that could help these businesses gain maximum control over their two key costs - labour and stock. And to make life easier for customers, the system was to be made available on a subscription basis and to be entirely web-based, minimising costs and optimising access.

In the years since the initial launch, further systems have been acquired and our overall offer refined and developed into the end-to-end solution you see today. And by listening closely to the market and to our many customers - from global brands to the smallest independent - we intend to keep pushing the boundaries further.

Our ultimate goal is customer lifetime loyalty - a challenge that drives all our people and guides our on-going investment in the future as we develop new products, gain greater expertise and build deeper functionality into our solution.

    Application

I applied online. I interviewed at Fourth (Macclesfield, England) in February 2017.

    Interview

First round of interviews was group oriented, second ones were 3 individual interviews to different managers. The first day was an introduction into the company and the group discussion were to see if you could stand out, if so you moved on to the 1:1 interviews, this was a little bit daunting at first but despite being nervous I managed to get the job offer.
