Cyril Haines Watts qualified as an accountant whilst acquiring his first clients.


The first office was set up in a wooden shed, a desk, two chairs, a filing cabinet and a shared phone. Within the first year, two more members of staff were recruited and a bigger premises found.


With no proactive sales drive, more and more clients came on board having heard 'word of mouth' about the customer driven one stop shop accountancy business. 


A second partner joined and the aquisitions began. New services were introduced including Tax and Mechanised Bookkeeping. 


Our business continues to grow due to new and more complex legislation. New premises were found and by the end of the decade we boasted eight offices in the Thames Valley area. 


We expand our office network across the UK. We set up specialist divisions which offer clients a better range of services.


Tremendous organic growth achieved and we became a top 20 firm in the UK. We became a true alternative to the Big 5, with comprehensive services and expertise. Additional divisions are added and we became the leading advisor on Tax Planning.


We focus on being geographically close to clients, with many new offices opening. Significant expansion of non-core services to ensure we continue to offer the ultimate 'full service' for all clients. 


We focus on strengthening our client relationships and offering more comprehensive support for our business owners by reinforcing our position as true business advisors - not just merely accountants.

    I have been working at Haines Watts full-time


    A company that shares everything with you, they are as transparent as possible which helps employees embrace changes within the business as we understand the end goal.

    Northampton office is a great group of people with a work hard, play hard mentality. Thoroughly enjoying my time with the business.


    Northampton and indeed the whole SEM region have grown rapidly and sometimes procedures aren't quite as streamlined as they should be.

    Advice to Management

    Don't forget the teams on the ground, give them time for 121's, they need your support and guidance to keep the business succeeding.

    Phone call interview, followed up with F2F. During phone call they asked initial get to know you questions and then the face to face interview consisted of more competency based such as why you feel are the right person for this role and more focused on your skills and experience
