Bristol Equality Charter 

The Bristol Equality Charter has been set up to help improve equality, diversity and inclusion across Bristol. We’re proud to have been involved from the outset of this great initiative.

Giving Back

Making a positive difference in society is important to us. In September 2016 we launched the HL Charitable Foundation to help support the local community. The Foundation, with the help of the HL people has raised tens of thousands of pounds so far towards the employee’s chosen charities.

Volunteering

2019 saw the beginning of our very own volunteering policy. HL employees have 2 days to take away from the office to volunteer for any charity they wish - meaning our employees can give back to a cause of their individual choice.

Mentoring

Mentoring can be another great development tool to help grow confidence and capability in the workplace. Our mentoring scheme works to facilitate a trusted, non – judgemental space where mentees can gain support with their career from a colleague.

This working relationship gives time for the mentee to explore and reflect on their strengths and areas for growth.

We feel so strongly in the value of mentoring that HL recently helped to launch the 1st South West Mentoring Awards. These awards recognise organisations and people who have been inspired, developed themselves and improved their workplace through mentoring, either as a mentor or mentee. 

HL hosted the awards ceremony on the 19th March 2019. It was a great success – and something we’re keen to build on next year!

HL Networks

Community starts inside the office and we’ve developed a selection of internal networks. These groups come together to socialise, support, raise awareness and bring change.

Community Engagement

Helping support the Bristol community so that everyone can thrive, providing financial education, promoting volunteering and community outreach to HL colleagues.

Environment

We aim to help HL take responsibility for understanding, measuring and reducing its direct and indirect environmental impact – encouraging everyone to lead a more sustainable life.

We’re lucky to be based in the heart of Bristol within a stone’s throw of the historic harbour.

A buzzing multicultural city with a population of over 400,000, there’s always something going on here. From festivals devoted to food, hot air balloons and graffiti to cat pubs and theatres in breweries, it’s fair to say Bristol is a unique city.

There's plenty within reach of Bristol as well. London is just 120 miles away, but in under an hour you can find yourself in the lush countryside of Wales, Devon or the Cotswolds.

Graduate Scheme

Our rotational graduate scheme involves three month rotations in different job roles, which could include finance, investment, operations and marketing. You’ll build your career path and specialise at the end of the two year programme. While moving across the business, you’ll get a feel for what the departments do, how they fit together, and where they’re going.

With previous graduates and senior managers as your mentors, we’ll support you through professional qualifications, while you find the career that’s right for you.

What would you do on the graduate scheme?

Your journey might involve being first port of call for clients on the helpdesks, or speaking to fund managers as part of the investment team. You could be at the heart of client insight, seeing what goes on in the digital marketing department, or liaising with the financial advisers.

You’ll be coming up with ideas to deliver innovation, while building lasting relationships throughout the business. We’ll work with you to find you a role that matches your personal skills and ambitions.

We don’t have a ‘type’, but we do have a vision. We make it easy for our clients. You’ll learn to balance your time around different projects, so you can drive progress, demonstrate leadership and try to do it better, every step of the way.

Apprenticeships

Who can be an Apprentice?

You could be leaving School, College or University. You could have very little work experience or lots of work experience, be a returning parent or a retiree.

We know that when you are learning your new career you will need support to help you reach your potential. You’ll have a manager who supports you to succeed through regular one to one’s. Apprentices are also given an on the job buddy to show you the ropes, answer your questions and coach you through challenges.

Placement Scheme

University placements

Gain an insight into what life at Hl is really like – with a 12 month University Placement.

We offer placements in a variety of business areas as well as plenty of side projects to get involved in. You’ll also work on a real life client focussed project with other placement students, which you’ll present back to our CEO.

Internships

We offer a small number of Internships within HL every summer, for between 6-12 weeks, depending on your availability. HL Internships are bespoke each year and only provided in the areas of the business that we know will enable you to make an impact for the short time you spend with us.

Past Interns have joined teams within some of our IT, Operations and Corporate Responsibility departments.
