In common with everyone in our sector, we are experiencing a prolonged period of change and The Camden Way focusses us on how we will tackle these changes and what we need to do to succeed in the future.
We are Camden when we:
Deliver for the people of Camden We always remember that we are here for the residents, businesses and communities of Camden; so the people of Camden know we are acting on their behalf. We actively respond to and learn from what they say about us.
Work as one team We work together as ‘one Camden’ with colleagues and partners to make a difference to the people of Camden. We share information, learning and working practices, and join things up for our residents. The challenges we face are bigger than any one of us, any team or any single organisation. By acting together we will deliver the Camden plan.
Take pride in getting it right We take personal pride in delivering the right services, right first time. We go the extra mile to meet the expectations our residents, businesses and communities have of us. We take personal responsibility for getting things done.
Find better ways We find new and innovative ways to deliver results that matter for the people of Camden, and use our resources ever more efficiently to deliver value for money. We take advantage of changes in technology to create exciting opportunities to rethink and change the way we work. We learn from experience and feedback; and challenge each other so that we are the best we can be.
Take a lead We are inspired to take a lead – sometimes on big projects, sometimes in much smaller individual ways. We are clear about the expectations and rules that the organisation has set out for all of us. We take the initiative at all levels and are flexible and pro-active in solving problems within in our everyday roles.
Cutting-edge, challenging, vibrant and diverse - at Camden we are committed to excellence in everything we do.
With around 4,000 staff, our aim is to recruit and develop talented people who will focus on our customers, take responsibility, work together and find better and cheaper ways of doing things.
Our vision is to make Camden a better borough. We’re going to create a place that works for everyone. Our vision for Camden is as a borough of opportunity; where individuals and communities fulfil their own potential, both in their economic and social life. We want people in Camden to live in safe and harmonious communities, feel connected to where they live, and know that they can influence what happens around them.
Our plan is to make the most of the economic growth of the borough, build sustainable communities, improve services to get things right first time, find new solutions to long standing complex challenges and bring strategic leadership to strengthen and build new partnerships. We call this the Camden Plan.
Our staff are at the heart of being able to deliver the Camden Plan and we will need to transform the way we do things and work in new and different ways to achieve this. We don't just want people to fit into a Camden job - we need people who share our values. We recruit for attitude and develop for skills.
To deliver the best services to our residents, we need the best people working for us to make a difference to our communities.
Together we are Camden.
Camden’s strength lies in its diversity and we actively welcome people from all backgrounds. We believe our organisation will be a better, more creative and innovative place to work if we can harness the benefit of lots of different perspectives.
We value and celebrate the diversity that exists within our community and look to see it reflected in our workforce. We are committed to creating a working environment in which everyone can take full part, and integrate fairness and equity into every aspect of our employment practices.
We pride ourselves on paying all our staff and contractors the London Living Wage (LLW). Camden has also committed to becoming the country’s first Timewise council as part of its work to help parents balance work with childcare, which fits in with our aim to be leaders in innovative flexible and part-time working that allows for different patterns of care and for parents to share childcare responsibilities.

I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at London Borough of Camden (London, England) in May 2017.
I was 15 minutes early for the interview. Waited downstairs 20 minutes until someone came to greet me. We get to this room where 2 other people are waiting. I introduce my self and shake hands. Been told where to sit. I tell them I brought requested documents with me ( one being passport). They were all confused as to why did I brought them. I was asked what nationality I am and when I said I am Romanian I have been told that that's why I was asked for documents. Then they introduce themselves again. And I am being told to ask in case I don't understand what I am asked and if I go off track they will try to stop me ( after the passport incident this made things even worst for me specially when they could see up until then the level of my English ). Then was a 40 minutes interview , poorly conducted, unorganised. I have ask for feedback regardless of being positive or negative.
Almost 2 weeks later I receive an email saying that due to the high calibre of people I didn't took the role and they understand I would like feedback so I should email ( email address given) the same address that sent this email.
