Company Updates

  • On Friday 15th October, we hosted the annual employee long service lunch. This celebration is held in recognition of those who have worked at MHR for 10 years or more.
More than 100 people attended the event this year, with a combined service in excess of over 10,000 years expertise across our industry!
The event enables colleagues from across the business to meet, share stories and experiences, and inevitably discuss how the business has changed, grown and continued to be successful during the years they have been employed.
The event was enjoyed by all present and the ever increasing number of attendees is testament to what makes MHR an employer of choice for many.

  • Its that time again! We have just launched our fourth video in our #EnableYourGreatness series! This time you can meet Ellie, a superhero manager (literally).

Implementation & Consultancy Services

Whether businesses are embarking upon an entire business transformation, or a more specific change programme, our team of expert consultants use best-practice methodologies to implement a solution to meet the needs of each and every customer.

Our people are our business. To deliver our market leading software and services, we need market leading people. That’s why we are committed to developing our employees and providing opportunities for their personal and professional growth.

Last year, we celebrated the internal promotion of 30% of our current employees.

We provided fully funded external and internal training such as qualifications from: the Chartered Institute of Payroll Professionals, the Chartered Institute of Personal Development, the Chartered Management Institute, the Charter Institute of Marketing and PRINCE 2 qualifications to name but a few, along with many other courses from our tailored internal training programme.

Innovation in software and services is in our DNA, and so it’s important to us that we promote skills and support our local communities.

We sponsor Hack24, an event that provides a forum to share ideas and develop the technical industry and technical skills in Nottingham.

Through events such as Women in Tech we work closely with our community to encourage diversity and inclusion in our workforce.

In conjunction with local universities, we run development sessions for students and internship programmes to provide opportunities to develop their skills in the workplace.

And it’s not all work.

We have a strong social network at MHR, with employee-run clubs; from football teams and pub quizzes to music groups and book clubs, there’s always something going on.

At our Annual Company Meeting, we showcase the finalists of a companywide video competition, with some very professional and often funny entries.

Our Graduate Programme

Our established graduate development programme provides experience across multiple disciplines and functions. Our graduates have a structured and supported plan and throughout the programme they lead projects in different areas of the business, eventually choosing the area in which they will specialise.

Meet some of our past and present graduates:

Laura Cottam

Since joining the programme, I have had the opportunity to work with the marketing and product teams and been involved in some really interesting projects. It’s been a real learning curve and given me an opportunity to prove what I am capable of. One of the highlights of the programme so far has been joining a week-long sailing expedition, along with colleagues, to support people of different physical abilities. Together we crewed a yacht around the Canary Islands.

Andy Hames

After completing a technical IT degree in computer networks I was keen to get exposure to non-technical business activities. Moving rapidly between projects and departments also taught me to be highly adaptable to business challenges. I am now in the US as the Senior Vice President Global Operations.

Ed Mills

In every project I worked with senior people who taught me a huge amount about business. The company directors were genuinely supportive and interested in the project outcomes. After finishing the programme in 2008 I was appointed Marketing Manager, and then moved on to become a Business Development Manager a few years later. My current role is Senior Business Development Manager.

At MHR, we support over 1000 businesses in the UK and abroad. This includes over 5% of the UK workforce, with some of the largest and most successful public sector, commercial and not-for-profit organisations using MHR’s solutions to support their people.

Customers include T.M.Lewin, Care UK, Cafcass, Severn Trent Water, Chesterfield NHS, QVC, Loughborough University, British Film Institute, London Clubs International, The Salvation Army, Laing O’Rourke, Skanska, Brighton and Hove Council, London Overground, Ofgem, Nandos, and much more.

"Choosing MHR's iTrent Cloud Services made perfect sense to us. Partnering with MHR will allow us to focus on our strategic HR priorities, which are our people and our culture, and ensure peace of mind regarding concerns such as legislative compliance or potential infrastructure issues. Outsourcing elements of our payroll process, including BACS payments and reporting accountabilities, to MHR will also reduce the administrative burden." Richard Miles-Thorne, Deputy Head of People Services, Admiral Group plc

“We selected MHR due to the quality of its people and services, including the location of its operations." Carole Wigley, HR Director, Freeths

“We are pleased to be working in collaboration with MHR. The trust’s payroll system was implemented many years ago and no longer meets our needs. MHR provides a flexible, modern solution, which not only ensures that our 3,500 staff are appropriately paid, but also makes sure we can effectively manage other human resource issues in the organisation.” Eric Morton, Chief Executive, Chesterfield Royal Hospital

I have been working at MHR full-time (More than 3 years)

I cannot believe some of the negative comments I have read on this site. Yes, I do work hard and put in extra work when required, and am even sometimes under a little pressure. I also met someone I did not get on with once, but is this not normal in almost every place of work.

There seems to be some disgruntled people who have left MHR for one reason or another. I cannot speak for them, but I can comment on my experience.
In my 3 years of working at MHR, I have been promoted twice and had three pay rises. I work alongside some of the most talented people I have ever met. I have requested, attended and passed exams for two career training courses, which the company has paid for in full, along with my hotel, food and travel expenses. I have also attended countless internal courses organised by our fantastic Training Department. My meals here are discounted and I don't have any car parking costs, which potentially saves me hundreds of pounds every month.
I consider myself fortunate that I get a car allowance and above average pension contributions paid for me. I am proud to wear a suit and tie every day, in my modern heated/air conditioned office using the most up to date technology available. MHR is always expanding, its innovative and our products are at the cutting edge of technology.
I choose my office hours, meaning I can start early, so I get home before 5.30pm almost every evening to have dinner with my young family and spend quality time with them.

If you are talented, hard working and willing to learn, (and dress smartly) then MHR is a great place to work.
    If your not, it's not.

    Occasional lack of resource.
Communication between employees and senior management is redundant in many areas.
Lack of a company wide social experience for employees and their families, such as a summer or Christmas function.

    Advice to Management

In my opinion, senior management need to engage with employees at a lower level more. I believe they should take the time to walk the departments and talk to employees every so often.

    Difficult Interview

I applied through a recruiter. The process took 1 day. I interviewed at MHR (Nottingham, England) in March 2015.

More than 4 hours. With loads of technical questions/job-related questions. On-site interview with 3 or 4 engineers/lead developers. At the end, few conversations with CEO. Very nice people with broad of experience. No need to go through HR to prove that you are the right candidate.
