On Friday 15th October, we hosted the annual employee long service lunch. This celebration is held in recognition of those who have worked at MHR for 10 years or more.
More than 100 people attended the event this year, with a combined service in excess of over 10,000 years expertise across our industry!
The event enables colleagues from across the business to meet, share stories and experiences, and inevitably discuss how the business has changed, grown and continued to be successful during the years they have been employed.
The event was enjoyed by all present and the ever increasing number of attendees is testament to what makes MHR an employer of choice for many.

people first Chatbot
MHR has recently announced the release of their people first Chatbot; automation designed to remove the strain from common administration tasks allowing employees to focus on valued skills such as creativity, empathy and communication.
The people first Chatbot will allow employees to book holidays, check holiday balances, complete expenses, book overtime and view payslips & dates, all without the need to log into a separate system.

We provided fully funded external and internal training such as qualifications from: the Chartered Institute of Payroll Professionals, the Chartered Institute of Personal Development, the Chartered Management Institute, the Charter Institute of Marketing and PRINCE 2 qualifications to name but a few, along with many other courses from our tailored internal training programme.
Innovation in software and services is in our DNA, and so it’s important to us that we promote skills and support our local communities.
We sponsor Hack24, an event that provides a forum to share ideas and develop the technical industry and technical skills in Nottingham.
Through events such as Women in Tech we work closely with our community to encourage diversity and inclusion in our workforce.
In conjunction with local universities, we run development sessions for students and internship programmes to provide opportunities to develop their skills in the workplace.

We have a strong social network at MHR, with employee-run clubs; from football teams and pub quizzes to music groups and book clubs, there’s always something going on.

Our Graduate Programme
Our established graduate development programme provides experience across multiple disciplines and functions. Our graduates have a structured and supported plan and throughout the programme they lead projects in different areas of the business, eventually choosing the area in which they will specialise.

Since joining the programme, I have had the opportunity to work with the marketing and product teams and been involved in some really interesting projects. It’s been a real learning curve and given me an opportunity to prove what I am capable of. One of the highlights of the programme so far has been joining a week-long sailing expedition, along with colleagues, to support people of different physical abilities. Together we crewed a yacht around the Canary Islands.
After completing a technical IT degree in computer networks I was keen to get exposure to non-technical business activities. Moving rapidly between projects and departments also taught me to be highly adaptable to business challenges. I am now in the US as the Senior Vice President Global Operations.
In every project I worked with senior people who taught me a huge amount about business. The company directors were genuinely supportive and interested in the project outcomes. After finishing the programme in 2008 I was appointed Marketing Manager, and then moved on to become a Business Development Manager a few years later. My current role is Senior Business Development Manager.

Advice to Management
Really impressed with everything I’ve seen at MHR. I’d like to see more frequent or larger training groups.
I’d like to see more internal communications around mentoring opportunities.
I applied through a staffing agency. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at MHR (Nottingham, England) in October 2016.
First interview was split into three. An hour interview with the Services Director and HRD, then an hour with the CEO & CFO and then a hour with the Chairman. This made good use of time and I could see it gave MHR three separate views of my capabilities. I was informed with in two days I had been short listed and was invited back to a panel interview (Chairman, Vice Chair, Non-Execs, CEO, CTO, CFO) to present my 90 plan for 15 minutes and then have the panel ask a range of questions. I felt it was a fair challenging test for the role I was interviewing for. I appreciate the time invested by the board and it helped me to understand the culture and dynamics of MHR.
