Burns Night in the office!
As a business, we take great pride in our work and are always aiming to improve and challenge one another. Naturally, we also like to have some fun and often get involved in a wide range of social and sporting activities.
Mako’s Graduate Trainee Trader Programme is an immersive and structured programme which gives a unique opportunity for graduates to develop in-depth knowledge and experience of the industry and options markets. Its content provides an educational base for potential Mako traders and operational staff. The programme runs for a 18 month period and not only covers the markets in which Mako operates, but also fundamental option theories as well as operational and risk processes.
Mako’s graduate programme offers an exceptional opportunity to work with highly experienced traders to get hands on knowledge and to understand the options industry in greater depth.
From the outset, graduate trainees are introduced to our fast paced and dynamic trading environment and are assigned stimulating and interactive projects to build upon their knowledge and understanding. Mako’s in-house programme is one of a kind and prepares graduates for a career at Mako by allowing immediate exposure to all aspects of our market-making business.
As a trainee you will be working closely with our senior traders, giving you the opportunity to learn from some of the most experienced in the business. In addition, trainees participate in classes covering a rigorous syllabus of options theory and attend regular mock floor-trading sessions in a collaborative and unique environment.
Graduate trainees rotate across different desks giving the added benefit of exposure across the markets in which the market making team operates. This is an exceptional opportunity to gain an understanding across a wide range of products.
Trainees have the opportunity to add value from the outset. Mako's structure encourages a culture of exploration, challenge and learning. Trainees work on various projects throughout their rotations and have access to a wealth of knowledge across the business. This is the ideal environment for sharing knowledge and generating ideas to drive our business forward.
In an evolving and increasingly complex market, Mako recognises the importance of effective and adaptable technology as a tool for generating returns. Mako's technology teams deploy advanced trading applications over low latency infrastructure, connecting Mako to global markets.
Over the last 12 months, we have embarked on a journey to advance and grow our technological footprint; we aim to do this by melding traditional approaches with sophisticated new technologies, market analysis and tools. We believe the successful fusion of trader experience and expertise with smart technology will be key to unlocking opportunity in the market.
As a team, we are driven by our inquisitive nature and an appetite to learn new concepts and find ways to navigate complexity. Uncertainty creates great opportunity and as keen problem solvers we are constantly looking for individuals of the same intuitive mindset.
Giving help and hope to communities in the UK and around the world is a cornerstone of our culture. Where we can, we try to give more than just financial aid by building strong relationships with those we wortk with. We actively support our employees in their personal charitbale ventures as well as host a number of events throughout the year to raise money.
DEALING FOR DONATION DAY
For over a decade, Mako has held an annual fundraising day which has raised millions of pounds for a number of charitable organisations.
Currently funds raised go towards the very worthwhile efforts of WeSeeHope, Justice and Care and the Selby Trust. These charities work tirelessly towards improving the lives of those less fortunate than ourselves around the world.

Advice to Management
Great place to work, keep it up
I applied through a staffing agency. The process took 4+ weeks. I interviewed at Mako Trading Group.
Short, relevant and enjoyable. The process was pretty swift and I only met people who seemed relevant for the role. I was walked through what the role was going to look like and how I could make it my own which was a really worthwhile experience.
