Technical Account Manager

Being a woman in tech, I only recently started advocating for myself at work about advancement opportunities. Because of this I wanted to ask this question to my male counterparts. When you have 1:1's with your direct reports and talk about career growth / aspirations what is your managers’ response typically? I’d like to gauge how my experience (negative) differs from others.     I applied through a recruiter. The process took 2 months. I interviewed at NewVoiceMedia (Chicago, IL) in Jul 2019


    Met with two department managers, a potential colleague, sales manager, and then the sales VP. They weren't at all sure what they were looking for in the person for this role. Everyone I spoke with spent each call talking at me and there were no structured questions to get to know anything about me or my experience. The first person I spoke with was concerned if I was "fun enough" for the team despite asking me 0 questions, so the recruiter suggested I "turn up my personality". The last VP I spoke with described me as "excitable" and said I kept interrupting him even though he was the one cutting me off. Two of the 4 people I met with have since left the company, so I think that speaks for itself.
