“What is the future of television? How much should we invest in emerging markets? Will my business have been disrupted in 10 years’ time?”
We answer the toughest questions facing businesses. We do rapid, high-impact projects for chief executives and boards looking for the best strategies. Answers to these questions require something beyond the ordinary – and that is why at OC&C we strive to create an extraordinary firm that offers the best service to our clients and the best opportunities for our teams.
As a result, over the last 29 years, we have grown to become a global strategy consultancy with 14 offices in 4 continents, serving leading companies and private equity houses around the world.
Going beyond conventional wisdom
At OC&C we all have one thing in common – a fierce interest in finding the best answer for our clients. We believe in applying a rigorous analytical approach alongside creative thinking to create winning and differentiated strategies.
From your first day, you will find yourself an integral member of one of our small project teams, with immediate responsibility for contributing to our advice. In our London office we have deep expertise in retail, leisure, consumer goods, media, technology, transport and business services, and you will work with thought-leaders and leading companies across those sectors.
We recruit people into all the stages of the consulting career path, with your starting level determined solely by the experience and skills you bring to the table. We look for high levels of intellectual curiosity, strong analytical and creative abilities, excellent communication and leadership skills, and an enthusiastic commitment to the entrepreneurial and participative culture that is the hallmark of OC&C.
Projects tend to be fast and focused, so you'll rapidly gain experience across a wide range of challenges and sectors. Learning the ropes takes time, but your rate of progress depends entirely on personal performance. At OC&C, insight and creativity trump tenure - meritocracy isn't just a word; it's how we make our living.
Join as a Recent Graduate
The best Bachelor and Master’s graduates from leading universities and colleges generally join us as Associate Consultants.
PhDs and post-docs will join as Associate Consultants, alongside undergraduate applicants: in our experience a robust grounding in the fundamentals of business, and of consulting, is key to your long-term success. Progress within the firm is entirely on merit, and the benefits of a PhD typically allow you to progress more quickly. Our fastest ever promote to Partner - after just 7 years - was a new joiner with a PhD.
We take MBA graduates from the top schools, who will generally join at the Consultant level. You will take responsibility for a significant portion of the project as well as being given sufficient support to make a successful transition into consultancy.
Join with Consulting Experience
Recruits with high performing track records, generally at other strategy consultancies, join us at all levels: Associate Consultant, Consultant, Manager level, Associate Partners or even as Partners.
Join us for a Summer Internship
OC&C also offers summer internships to outstanding driven candidates each summer. Undergraduates, graduates and MBA students are all welcome. You will join a project team as if you were a full-time joiner, serving a client and gaining a first-hand experience in consulting. Most of our interns receive (and accept!) full-time offers after their internship.
At OC&C, we aim to provide a workplace which allows brilliant people to flourish, irrespective of background.
OC&C’s Partners see improving diversity as a good thing in its own right, but there is also a strong business rationale: diversity of thought is critical to delivering the highest standard of advice to our clients. Diversity of background is an important enabler of this, as is an environment which encourages brave thinking from every level of the firm. We are confident we foster the latter, but know we need to do more on the former.
After you join the firm, our one-on-one mentoring programme actively supports all our colleagues and their individual needs, but we also have specific programmes to support female and LGBT colleagues:
At OC&C we look for academic brilliance and a proven track record, so strong grades from a top academic institution are essential. We are not fussy about what you have studied: our consultants join from a variety of disciplines, from art history to nuclear physics. Rather, we want you to demonstrate an intellectual liveliness and a natural curiosity about how the world works.
During our interview process, we assess candidates based on the following areas:
Developing your skills as rapidly as possible is at the heart of our success as a business. Introductory training will equip you with the core consulting toolkit, ongoing training will hone your knowledge of finance, accounting, and strategic thinking, and your project work will offer you diverse opportunities to learn from colleagues, think creatively and get under the skin of how businesses tick. We also host bi-annual off-sites (recent locations include Chicago and Amsterdam) allowing you to learn with and from the global OC&C network.
But we think great consultants are so much more than business machines – that’s why we offer unrivalled opportunities for your personal development. Want to off-road from London to Cape Town? Perfect your Spanish? Run the Marathon de Sables? We offer grants to help you pursue your interests and up to four weeks of extra unpaid leave each year.
I have been working at OC&C Strategy Consultants full-time
Amazingly bright, fun people to work with
Its processes are still catching up to its ambition
I applied online. The process took 2+ months. I interviewed at OC&C Strategy Consultants (London, England) in February 2014.
After standard online testing, I was invited to interview - both rounds were condensed into one day (they would typically be a week apart).
Morning: test on laptops. Different to usual psychometric testing as they had designed their own test which assessed numerical reasoning, verbal reasoning etc. I believe this is new for them, but if you perform well on normal psychometric testing, you should be fine. 2 30-minute case study interviews, both with a market sizing element.
I was then sent away for two hours to wait for a call informing me whether I would be progressing to the afternoon session.
Afternoon: 2 45-minute case study interviews, this time with partners. Again, market sizing elements in both, but these longer interviews allowed more time to explore the strategy side.
I didn't negotiate as the salary was extreme generous for an entry level position, including a sign-on bonus.
