Best Places to Work: 2015 (#11)
I have been working at PA Consulting Group full-time (More than 5 years)
I am an engineer in the Cambridge office. Been at PA for 6 years (from a graduate). I have found the work very rewarding, with opportunities from day one to lead tasks (technical and people), meet and shape client thinking, and develop my technical interests/skills. Ultimately my work is highly specialist, makes a different to the world/clients and is novel (no repeat work, turning the handle). I have had great access to passionate senior employees and management to develop myself and steer my career. No one tells me how to use my time, I can choose what I get involved with. Colleagues are experts, dedicated and fun : and really care about getting high quality work into the real world. I have progressed four roles in six years, and worked only tuns of product development and R&D projects in that time. I have lots of opportunities to write proposals, discuss novels ways to solve new and existing client challenges. Plenty of training.
I can imagine for some people the fact you have to work hard could be a problem. you will have to take responsibility for your own opportunities (e.g. Roles on projects, sectors, type of work, types of technology) and career progression. PA will always support those who are showing ambition. Likewise, work life balance is something the individual has to manage.
Advice to Management
Continue to develop wellbeing support and processes. Consider more PV strategic investment in future technologies, so we have the future knowledge and experience, rather than solely relying on client opportunities or quite periods (which are really never).
I applied online. The process took a week. I interviewed at PA Consulting Group (London, England) in November 2015.
No interview. Carefully study the company to write a personalised cover letter. More than your CV, this is more important. Match your skills and knowledge to particular areas of the company. And use case studies to demonstrate why PA Consulting.
