RS Components – Why Work With Us?

As children, we grew up with big ideas and active imaginations that led us to think we could do anything we wanted. We were inspired by the world around us and driven by a belief that anything was possible. As the leading global distributor of industrial and electronics products, we work with our customers’ of today to turn dreams into reality and support the engineers of tomorrow.

Our business was established to inspire and support the engineering community and ‘For the inspired’ is the essence of what we believe in. It’s a celebration of the people in our industry: their achievements, their moments of ambition and their inspiration to make things happen.

When Ben Ryan started his journey to develop a new 3D printed arm for his son Sol, little did he realise that his innovation had the potential to change the lives of children worldwide.

Discover the stories we’ve shared so far which bring ‘for the inspired’ to life. This is just the beginning, though; join us for this incredible journey.

In 2016, Richard Browning had a vision. He wanted to build a viable anti-gravity jet-engine suit and inspire solo human flight. Throughout 2016 he designed, built, redesigned and rebuilt his prototype flight suit – Daedalus – testing, developing and reiterating for a year before getting to the working model you see today. His strength, perseverance and ambition to change the world are enthralling and RS is excited to be part of Richard’s incredible journey, providing RS Pro tools, components and expertise to support extraordinary engineering in action.

Innovation is at the heart of what we do at RS, and we work hard to continuously improve the services and products we offer our customers. By making sure we’re at the forefront of new technologies and leading the way with innovative solutions, we support our customers and inspire them to achieve the impossible and change our world.

As times have changed so has RS, and we’ve embraced new technologies as they’ve emerged. Today, Technology and communications' products are a core part of our portfolio and we stay head of the game by introducing new products and innovations as soon as they enter the market, such as the Raspberry Pi

We keep industry working – but what kind of person works for us?

Electrocomponents, through its trading brands of RS Components and Allied Electronics, is the global distributor for engineers.

With operations across all the major markets in the world, and with 62% of our business now being delivered online, we have outstanding career opportunities in many different areas and across many different countries.

We're passionate about our customers - they are at the heart of what we do. And so we actively recruit people who share our commitment to service, innovation and exceeding expectations.

A set of clearly defined personal strengths and behaviours influences how we work and makes Electrocomponents a 'Great Place to Work'. Throughout the organisation, we consistently aim for an excellence in customer service and performance, and at every level, we are encouraged to be dynamic and innovative, to show respect for one another and to build excellent working relationships.

As a group, we have a culture of learning, growth and advancement, allowing us to take control of our career paths, plan our personal development objectives, and discover the many opportunities available to us.

From marketing to strategy, finance and IT to sales, there are career opportunities throughout the world with Electrocomponents.

Together we’re creating a 'Great Place to Work'

At Electrocomponents, we place a strong emphasis on employee engagement and involvement.

Across the regions, we encourage and support our teams, keeping up momentum and helping us create a 'Great Place to Work.'

Some of the best ideas for the business come from our employees, such as 'The way we work', a process underpinned by five clearly defined behaviours. These behaviours are invaluable to the business and they influence and drive the culture of our organisation.

We aspire to achieve them every day of our working lives. Our management and leadership teams are role models, encouraging and motivating others throughout the organisation. We aim:

  • To be customer focused at all times - because our customers are at the heart of everything we do
  • To strive for high performance and to have our achievements recognised
  • To work together towards one global vision
  • To give respect to others because it is our right to expect trust, honesty and openness
  • To be dynamic, innovative and to move forward with pace and agility

From our humble beginnings operating out of a lock-up garage in London in 1937 to the global company we are today, we’ve been on an incredible journey, but the best is still to come.

In 1937, J H Waring and P M Sebestyen established a company called Radiospares Limited, supplying radio repair shops with spare parts. The business began selling electronics components in 1954 and rebranded as RS Components in 1971.

In that time, we’ve become the number one high service distributor of electronics and maintenance products across Europe and Asia Pacific. Sourced from 2,500 suppliers, our broad product range includes electronics, automation and control, test and measurement, electrical and mechanical components.

I worked at RS Components full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Lots of hard working dedicated colleagues across digital & technology.
Lots of career progression opportunities, sideways, diagonal, upwards to help broaden knowledge across technology and the business.
Investment in training is there if you want it.
Genuinely loved going to work everyday for the full 5.5 years I worked there.

    Cons

Pockets of poor leadership is shared across the function resulting in the loss of some committed highly skilled, business knowledgeable colleagues.
Don’t let this put you off though as I personally loved this place.

    Advice to Management

Invest more in leaders and listen to your people a little more.
RS is a brilliant place to work with a great strategy, hang on to those super talented individuals that can truly help you to become ‘first choice’.

The process took 1+ week. I interviewed at RS Components in March 2020.

    Interview

Over all the job application and interview process was very friendly and efficient. I was amazed at how quick it went. One phone interview followed by a face to face with 3 of the department leads/heads. This was followed by a job offer 2 days later. I wish all interviews were this efficient. The internal recruiter was also very friendly and helpful and covered most questions before the face to face interview. Over all friendly and relaxed process.
