We might have six decades behind us. But at River Island, we don’t feel our age. Our brand is as fresh, exciting and forward-looking as it’s always been. With 300 stores across the world, an award-winning online fashion retail site, one of the biggest in-house design teams on the British high street and a deep commitment to nurturing new talent, we’re one of the most successful fashion retailers in the UK. But watch this space. We’re only just beginning.
“ River Island has fast become the designer brand of the high street, with stores in more than 18 countries. River Island has and always will be an exciting, innovative, and fun company. You’ll be glad you joined us." Ben Lewis , CEO
With over 300 stores in the UK and beyond, plus an award-winning online store, River Island isn’t just an icon of the British high street, but a fashion favourite across the world too. We’re proud of everything we’ve achieved so far. But it’s the future of our brand that excites us most. Our ambition is to become a leading multimarket, multichannel fashion brand for the mid-priced market. Bring your talent to River Island, and help us get there that little bit faster.
We’re renowned in the industry for seeking out and nurturing new talent. We’ve sponsored Graduate Fashion Week for six years running, helped to create London Fashion Week’s Fashion Film Festival, and collaborated with a number of up and coming designers, including global star and style icon Rihanna. All this and more is what’s earned us our reputation as the Designer Brand of the High Street. And what makes a career with us so thrilling.
We believe in rewarding our people for a job well done. From pensions and bonuses to big staff discounts, there are all the things you’d expect from an international fashion brand like ours. And many more you wouldn’t, like flexible working hours, external discounts and healthcare provision.
With such great Head Office facilities such as a gym, subsidised canteen, ample free parking and lots more, we make sure our staff are well looked after while at work.
We're a social bunch too! Our legendary Chrismas parties are always a big event in the social calendar with a summer bash and loads of charity events to keep us going throughout the year.
Early Finish Fridays are always a big hit throughout the summer months as well each pay day Friday.
What we can offer depends on your role and your location, but one thing’s for sure. At River Island, you’ll always feel well thanked for your hard work and contribution to our success.
Our ambition is to become a leading multichannel retailer for the mid-priced market. Tell us yours, and with help from our very own learning and development Academy, we’ll work with you to make it happen.

You’ve got the drive, the ambition and the commitment we need. We should know, we hired you. If you’re already an employee of River Island looking to try your talent at something new, we'll support you every step of the way.
Our WOW Factors make up the foundation of our employer brand. They are the five ways of working that describe what it's like to work here.
Just as the River Island name pulls customers in off the high street and inspires them to buy online, our employer brand will turn the heads of talented people, inspiring them to join, stay and grow with us. We've always had an employer brand, just as we've always had a brand famous for stylish, affordable fashion. Now that we've grown into an international retailer, it makes sense to put it all in to words.
River Island is full of different people doing different jobs. So how can one employer brand speak for everyone? We talked to people right across the business to get a general consensus on what life is like here.
Think of them as two-way promises - what you expect from us and what we can expect from you.
Our Ways of Working:
From designers and developers to store managers and sales advisors, our roles are as diverse and exciting as our fashion offering. If you love our brand, then in our book, you’re halfway there. All that’s left is to choose where your talent fits.
Our Head Office is a buzzing hub of fashion creativity, where no two days, or outfits, are ever the same. If you’re anything like us, then that’s exactly how you like it.
Join the best dressed and most talented office in London.
We may be fast becoming one of the UK’s most successful online fashion retailers, but our stores are still where it all starts. Join us, and you’ll soon discover our careers are as unique and exciting as our products.
We’re renowned in the industry for finding, nurturing and investing in new talent. Our placement programme for budding undergraduates is just one of the many reasons why.
We offer 12 month placements across our business, from Buying, Merchandising and Garment Technology to Brand, Design, Press and Marketing. But wherever you join us, you can be sure that the commercial experience and exposure you gain will be amongst the best in the fashion industry. From getting hands-on with current projects to learning from our expert teams, you’ll play an important role right from the start. And if you’re the right fit for us, we may even offer you a permanent role with us once you’ve graduated.
Our working environments are busy, exciting and fast-moving, just like our training. It’s not for everyone. But then, if you’re right for us, you wouldn’t have it any other way.
From Edinburgh to Truro, Stockholm to Dubai, River Island’s 300 stores span Europe, Asia and the Middle East. It’s the challenge of our dedicated Distribution Centre to fill those stores with the fun and fresh fashion our customers love. Thanks to focus and determination of our Distribution teams, it’s a challenge we consistently rise to. Based in Milton Keynes, our Distribution Centre uses state-of-the-art technology and processes to deliver the right stock at the right time to our stores across the world. With fantastic staff facilities on site, it’s not just a fast-paced and exciting place to work, but an enjoyable one too – just as you’d expect from a brand like ours.
We’re known for our original and innovative take on fashion. And now, thanks to our talented IT team, we’re developing an industry reputation for our use of tech too. Working at the cutting-edge, IT develop and support the technology that keeps our business running, and ensures we stay one stiletto-heeled step ahead of the competition.
With 300 stores in more than 18 countries, an international website, Head Office and Distribution Centre, all relying on the team 24/7, it’s a big task. But with some of the best technical know-how in the industry, and seemingly endless ideas on how to grow our business in an omni-channel market, it’s never an impossible one.
Based at Head Office and our Shoreditch offices, RI Tech is at the very heart of the business. Keep up to date and follow the team on Twitter on @RiverIslandTech
I have been working at River Island Clothing part-time (More than 3 years)
This is an overview of my time at the River Island Leeds Trinity store.
Staff - My work colleagues were all super friendly and made me feel welcome from my very first shift. I found it very easy to make friends and always felt happy going in to work as it was such a positive environment. The management were great and ensured the workplace was organised and under good control. In addition to this, management were approachable and understanding of any issues external to work such as booking time off for university examinations and transferring to other River Island stores during uni holidays. Overall store morale fantastic.
Pay - V. good and above average for my age range. This demonstrates that River Island really do value their staff compared to other retailers which offer minimum wage. There is also often opportunity for overtime if you're interested.
Incentives & Benefits - There were regular incentives for reaching targets and the prizes were always different, which made work even more fun & exciting. Encouragement from staff and management. Uniform benefits every 3 months and staff discount extremely generous (40%). Additional Trinity discounts for various other shops/cafes/restaurants.
Skills - Working at River Island really improves your communication and teamwork skills as you are engaging with customers and carrying out tasks on a daily basis. Management are always looking at ways for you to develop on your skills and progress within the company if you wish to do so. Great training programme when you initial start.
Store - Modern, trendy place to work in the heart of Leeds city centre. Really easy access as train and bus station only 5 minute walk away. New till systems very up to date with technology but easy to use.
Social - often charity events and outside socials, not just at Christmas time like other retailers. You really do become great friends with your work colleagues.
None that I can immediately think of.
Advice to Management
Keep being as you are, approachable, understanding and professional.
I applied online. I interviewed at River Island Clothing (Greenhithe, England).
Applied online and was invited to a group interview with about 10 others.
Asked to wear 'clothes representative of the brand'. Please be aware that this does not mean your own individual style - just dress completely basic.
The lady who was doing the interview was very unapproachable and rude she told me she hated my trousers.
We were asked to stand up, introduce ourselves and say who our 'style icon' was.
Afterwards, we were put into pairs, told to choose a 'style icon' and pick out an outfit for them that they would wear.
The girl who I was paired with was refusing to dress anybody but Rihanna, so I went along with it.
That was the end of it really.
Didn't get an offer.. wasn't really bothered. Looked like a cliquey sort of place to work.
