Company Updates

  • We have banned all single-use beauty wipes from sale and use in our beauty halls!

As part of Project Ocean (our long-term campaign to protect our oceans from over-fishing and plastic pollution), we have banned all single-use, plastic-based beauty wipes from sale and use in our Beauty Halls. We have replaced all single-use wipes with recyclable or re-usable alternatives. Our latest commitment is part of our ever-evolving plan to change the way we shop and to offer our customers more sustainable options.

Daniella Vega, Director of Sustainability at Selfridges, said: “Single-use beauty wipes have been a staple of many beauty drawers, but they are incredibly harmful to the environment. During a recent Selfridges team beach clean, we saw first-hand the impact they have on our waterways and we were even more motivated to remove them from our stores. We’re proud to have made this commitment and to continue to build on our legacy of sustainability leadership.”

Selfridges – Why Work With Us?

In 1906, Harry Gordon Selfridge arrived in London from Chicago with his heart set on opening his dream store. With his revolutionary understanding of publicity and the theatre of retail, Selfridges flourished under the direction of its charismatic Chief. Harry Gordon Selfridge's spirit of innovation and creativity lives on through its owners today.

Since 2003, W. Galen Weston and his family have owned and operated the business. The only store to be named the Best Department Store in the World three times, Selfridges today is more than just the sum of its products - it's a shopping experience that promises to surprise, amaze and amuse its customers by delivering extraordinary customer experiences. And, to this day, as Harry Gordon Selfridge said, 'Everyone is welcome'.

Our vision is to be the destination for the most extraordinary customer experience, and our people are central to achieving this. Team members across our business maintain our vision through the values we live day-to-day and the unique Selfridges spirit we bring to every project. Just as we create an extraordinary experience for our customers, we are dedicated to making Selfridges an exciting, inspiring and fun place to work. Being part of the Selfridges community offers many opportunities and unique experiences. As Harry Gordon Selfridge once said, ‘There’s no fun like work!’

At Selfridges we can offer you a rewarding and supportive environment to develop your career. We want you to have the most enriching experience which will allow you to fully immerse yourself in your role. As well as providing a great induction programme and on-the-job training, you can also take advantage of a wide variety of training, workshops and programmes, designed to help you develop your particular service, enhance your technical knowledge or management skills.

We operate an open and inclusive culture which encourages team members from across our business to share ideas on how we can continue to lead and improve. To achieve this, we engage a network of extraordinary communities to represent our team members. Our Values Ambassadors continually strive to explore ways to inspire us to live our values across every part of the business. Our Values Leadership Group are responsible for working together to strengthen our culture and drive our values forward.

GETTING THE RIGHT PEOPLE, IN THE RIGHT PLACE, AT THE RIGHT TIME, IS VITAL TO OUR SUCCESS.

At Selfridges, ensuring an extraordinary customer experience across every facet of our business is at the core of our vision. That’s why, in every department and at every level, we look for people who combine talent and expertise with passion and enthusiasm for their role.

Just like the teams within our stores, our head office departments bring together people from a wide variety of backgrounds, cultures and ages. And from our buying managers to our digital designers, there are some distinctive personal qualities that make a great Selfridges team member.

What we look for are people who will live the Selfridges values in everything they do. That means that as well as being friendly, helpful and professional, you’ll also be positive, energetic and adaptable. You will take responsibility to see through things through and will care passionately about doing them well.

I have been working at Selfridges full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

I moved over from one of our group businesses last year and it was one of the best decisions I've ever made. You get full ownership and accountability of your work, you work with fun, creative, likeminded people and the discount is AMAZING. As is the holiday allowance. The benefits for staff are brilliant here - flexible working, great charity initiatives and fundraising things to get involved in.

    Cons

No cons that I can think of, it's a great place to work

    Advice to Management

    Not really no.
