Shop Direct – Why Work For Us?

Hey, we're Shop Direct, home to Very.co.uk, Littlewoods.com and 3,500 super talented people.

We're on a mission to transform retail.

We want to provide the best shopping experiences for our 4 million customers by bringing together over 1,800 brands they love and flexible ways for them to spread the cost using credit.

It’s what makes us tick; it’s what makes us the largest integrated digital and fintech retailer in the UK, and a very exciting place to work.

With ambitions as big as ours, we need people that are truly connected, committed and passionate about what we’re here to do. Creating amazing shopping and payment experiences.

Doing this means that as a business, we don't stand still. We're a fast-paced, sometimes ambiguous, super exciting place to work. No two days are the same…

"One day you’re sitting in on a meeting about the latest tech, or catching up on the latest product trends, the next you're rolling your sleeves up and getting stuck into our 24/7 opening times during events like Black Friday… there's no place like it."

Last year we were proud winners of Retail Week’s Employer of the year award, praised for 'empowering colleagues, supporting new talent and offering opportunities to young people’.

The award meant a lot to us, recognising all the hard work that goes into making this a great place to be.

A competitive salary and bonus are just the start. Peer-to-peer recognition and premium health and wellbeing initiatives play a huge part in how we care for our people. We even offer flexible benefits so that everyone can shape their rewards and benefits package around their lifestyle. How great is that?!

  • Making good things easily accessible to you, too: everyone in the business can take advantage of a fantastic 25% off Very.co.uk clothing and fashion (including our Very exclusive fashion and beauty ranges) and 15% on home and electrical.
  • Stress free journeys to work: we want to make your commute to work as hassle free as possible, so we offer a brilliant cycle to work scheme and season ticket loans. Then once you arrive on site you’ll have access to our subsidised coffee shops, juice bar and canteen to kick start you for the day ahead.
  • It's not all work, work, work: we like to include a bit of fun and relaxation into our working day. Onsite gym classes*, beauticians and chill out zones do just that.
  • Benefits tailored to you: whether you want to boost your pension pot with our company match pension at 6%, make sure you’re covered for life’s little emergencies, or even buy extra holidays for a well-earned break, you can mix and match your benefits package exactly how you want to.
  • Bonuses: we offer annual bonuses based on individual contribution and business performance.
  • Parental policies: we recently enhanced our maternity and paternity policy to ensure our colleagues have the time to enjoy their growing family.

Wellbeing.

  • Our colleagues are empowered to work around a set of core hours in some of our departments to help them manage their home life as well as work.
  • Become a member of our in-house gym at head office and you can enjoy over 100 classes a week, from lunchtime yoga to early morning boxing.
  • Want to keep in great shape? Our wellbeing roadshows provide access to free health checks, flu jabs and general health advice and support.
  • We’ve also partnered with Nudge to offer colleagues access to personalised financial education. Not only do you get access to hints & tips to make money simpler – it’s paid for by Shop Direct!

We’re a diverse bunch – from tech genius’ to creative heroes, but we’ve got a couple of things that link us all. Our values.

Our values were created by our colleagues and they’re pretty special because they not only represent who we are today but also our aspirations for the future. … I mean nobody’s perfect, but we’re getting close.

They outline the high standards of behaviour and attitude we set ourselves, and expect of each other. They’re the benchmarks by which we hire, promote and reward, and the anchors of our culture.

London is where you'll find our newest office. Just a few hundred steps from Victoria Station, (check your fitness band if you don't believe us!) Sky Victoria occupies a fantastic location in the heart of the city.

Designed by award-winning interior design specialists, the 25,000 square foot space features catwalks that run right through the centre of the office. Huge digital walls where our data can be monitored in real-time. A tree-lined reception that brings the outside in and bleacher-style shared spaces and games areas.

It’s also home to an agile, multi-disciplinary, cross-functional team. A team made up of data scientists, software engineers and buyers, all collaborating every day to make it easy for our customers to shop the things they love.

    Application

I applied online. The process took 1 day. I interviewed at Shop Direct (Liverpool, England) in March 2017.

    Interview

Assessment day- Consisted of a few of the current colleagues giving talks about various roles within the company, followed by talks about the company background, history, ethos, values etc

This is then followed by a group task, which consisted of a scenario or question that is then discussed and everyone gets involved and then findings are discussed and put together and presented back to everyone, which isn't as daunting as it sounds.

This is then followed by tours of the office buildings and the spaces, between one on one interviews with staff from the selected role you have applied for, you should by this stage know who will be interviewing you, as everyone is in the cube with you throughout the day and there is ample time to go around and network and ask plenty of questions.
