Mission: We’re committed to keeping things as simple as possible without compromising on quality, leaving our customers free to get on with what they’re good at – running successful small businesses.

New Group CEO
Group CEO David Summers has been with Simply Business for over 12 years – joining in 2007 as a Product Manager, before later heading up our Partnerships team. Having gone on to lead our Customer Care and Operations, David made the transition to CEO in 2017. He now oversees our UK and US businesses as Group CEO, after Jason Stockwood became Vice Chairman in October 2018.
With over a decade of experience at Simply Business, David’s perfectly placed to reflect on the values that have helped the business grow to over 500,000 happy customers and, crucially, do so with an award-winning culture and a recognised positive social impact.
David’s nuts and bolts knowledge of life at Simply Business – from his time running our contact centre, to his record level of appearances at company trips! – means he’s never too far from the detail, and he takes pride in meeting every new starter in the business over an informal lunch (and yes, it’s on him!)
Specialising in insurance for small businesses, the self-employed and landlords, our expertise spans over 1,000 different trades.
More than 500,000 small business customers and more than 200,000 landlord customers trust us to provide quick, quality cover – without the hassle.
If we’ve learnt one thing along the way, it’s that each one of those customers has unique needs. That’s why we tailor every insurance policy we sell to suit the needs of the business owner or landlord buying it.
Because we’re a pretty cool bunch! But seriously, right now we’re on an incredible journey. We need people who are looking for a challenge, and have the drive and ambition to push the boundaries in whatever exciting project they believe in.
If you’re smart, passionate about delivering brilliant customer experiences, and enjoy solving complex problems, you’ll fit right in here with us.
We invest in our teams and working culture, building a company that talented people want to be a part of. We’re smart-working, so location and flexible working hours are a given, and we regularly fund training, conference tickets and all sorts of personal development plans.
Everything we do comes down to these five values – learning, empowerment, authenticity, pioneering, and simplicity. If you’re thinking about working here, it’s worth giving them some thought as they’re at the heart of our story.
And don’t forget to ask us about our legendary hackathons and summer awards events.
There’s all the serious (but important) stuff we call ‘core’ benefits. On top of that, you can pick and choose from the more exciting perks – whether it’s a full gym membership, private health cover, help with childcare, or a National Trust pass.
Some of these will kick in once you’re permanent, but here’s an idea of what you can look forward to:
The fun stuff
Passed probation? Time to pick and mix from things like:
But there’s so much more to Simply Business than insurance and memberships. We also run cycle to work, childcare voucher, and season ticket loan schemes, and our handy online form makes it easy to put in training or conference requests.
Best of all, though, are the groups, clubs, and adventures that come with the Simply Business territory. Forget a simple Give As You Earn scheme (although we’ve got that too) – we trek the Sahara for charity, throw epic summer parties, and meet up for book groups, public speaking coaching, yoga, manicures, beer brewing, and lots, lots more.
Our ‘chiefs’ and ‘directors’ all have one thing in common: they want to give our customers the best experience of choosing and buying insurance for their small business or rental property.
But, honestly, that’s really just the start of it. We’re harnessing the power of data and technology to create something better – for our customers, our employees, and the world we operate in.
There are now more than 500 of us, working in our two UK-based offices, London and Northampton, and our numbers are growing steadily across the Atlantic in Boston.
Whichever office you’re based in, we’re all united in the aim of providing our customers with expert help with their insurance and an intuitive online experience.
Our partnership with Whizz-Kidz was recognised at the Business Charity Awards, where we picked up the prize for Best Charity Partnership in financial services. These awards acknowledge the support that the UK’s businesses give to charities and voluntary organisations, so we’re proud that all of our employees’ fundraising efforts have been commended.
At the British Small Business Awards, Simply Business were named Insurance Provider of the Year. Up against some stiff competition, we were delighted to scoop top prize. And it’s an award we’re especially proud of, recognising our dedication to putting customers at the heart of everything we do.
Our claims team won the Broker Claims Technology Initiative of the Year award at the Claims Excellence Awards, for their development of online claims tracking portal Mi Claim. The market-leading tool means that business owners can check the progress of their claim on mobile or tablet, and our claims team has seen a significant drop in inbound calls as a result.
After scooping the top prize in 2015, we were named #1 Best Company to Work For again in the 2016 table. Retaining our crown is a real testament to our values - learning, empowerment, authenticity, pioneering, and simplicity - the things that make us, us. For more on our win, check out our press release or the Best Companies table in full. Our CEO, Jason Stockwood, also picked up a prize, winning the award for Best Leader, and capping off a brilliant night for the business.

Advice to Management
Keep investing in your people and doing the right thing.
I applied through an employee referral. The process took 1 day. I interviewed at Simply Business (Northampton, England) in April 2019.
Lovely, very positive, fun and interactive. The managers are very welcoming and settle the interview nerves very quickly! Although the managers take their role very seriously as shown, as a candidate I felt they have a touch that I haven’t seen in other managers before and that’s caring for their staff.
