Sourcefire puts FirePOWER behind its network security and information management software. The company's 3D (for discover, determine, and defend) software is based on Snort, an open-source intrusion detection engine. Its FirePOWER acceleration technology secures applications without sacrificing performance and efficiency. Sourcefire also uses hundreds of centrally managed sensors to detect, block, and analyze network traffic. It targets the finance, government, health care, manufacturing, and technology industries; customers have included SAIC and Ernst & Young. Sourcefire markets its products worldwide, directly and through resellers and distributors. Customers in the US account for three-quarters of sales.
