Mission: Our vision is to become the UK’s leading residential developer for creating value and delivering quality. We build over 10,000 homes each year, from one-bedroom apartments to six-bedroom houses all across the country.
Taylor Wimpey are very proud to announce that Jackie Coulthard (Managing Director, Yorkshire) and Sarah Pasco (Managing Director, Southern Counties) both featured in this year's 100 women to watch. To find out more, click here.
We’re proud to be one of 70 companies helping address the UK skills shortage in housebuilding. The Home Builders Skills Partnership has everything you need to know about getting into our growing industry. http://glassdoor.com/slink.htm?key=vQ6wg
We were formed by the merger of George Wimpey and Taylor Woodrow in 2007, and have operations in the UK and Spain. We aim to be the developer of choice for customers, employees, communities and shareholders.
We are one of the largest homebuilders in the UK, operating from 24 regional offices across England, Scotland and Wales.
We build a wide range of properties, from one- and two-bedroom apartments to five bedroom detached houses, with a broad price range including both private and affordable homes. We are truly national and we cover most regions across the UK. Our regional businesses are run as local homebuilders and have in depth knowledge and experience of the local market. We understand that development is about more than creating homes and we provide millions of pounds worth of infrastructure, for example roads, sewers, landscaping and community facilities, every year across the UK. We aim to develop vibrant communities with a true sense of place that fit into their surrounding area and meet the needs of local people.
We are a responsible community developer, committed to working with local people, community groups and local authorities and keeping them informed about our work, both before we build and throughout the life of the development. We focus on getting the basics of homebuilding right first time, such as quality, customer service and health and safety, and we aim to continually improve all parts of our business.
We aim to build attractive, high-quality homes and communities, with a focus on the following.
Land is the critical ‘raw material’ for our business and the ability to purchase the right sites in the right locations at the right price and at the right point in the cycle is a key driver of shareholder value.
Community engagement is all about keeping local people informed and up to date with what we are doing and encouraging them to take part in consultation so that they can have their say on our development proposals. We must do this effectively if we are to design sustainable developments that meet the needs of local residents, are attractive to customers and provide appropriate returns for our business. We aim to become the industry leader in managing the planning process across our business.
Getting the homebuilding basics right
We work with selected subcontractors and use carefully sourced materials to make sure that the homes we sell are of a high quality, are built safely, efficiently and cost-effectively and have as little effect as possible on the environment.
Caring about our customers
Buying a home is a significant financial and emotional investment and we aim to make buying, moving into and living in a Taylor Wimpey home as easy as possible for our customers. Delivering a great product and service that goes beyond our customers’ expectations is at the heart of what we do.
Our goal is to become the employer of choice in the industry, attracting and retaining people because of our culture and the opportunities we provide for career development. House building is an exciting and rewarding sector in which to build your career.
Having the right people in place is key to our corporate strategy and commercial success. Where we can, we always look to recruit and promote from within, however, we also realise the benefits of diversifying our workforce by combining internal talent with the best skillsets and backgrounds from outside of the business.

We run several different Graduate Programmes depending on skill set and where your area of study fits within our business. Our general programme is a 2 year rotational scheme divided into 4 separate 6 month placements, where you will spend time in all areas of the Taylor Wimpey business including; production, commercial, technical, sales and marketing, customer service, land and finance. However we also focus on specific disciplines such as finance, construction and technical.

Management Trainee Programme
If you are finishing college at 6th form and want to enter the world of work as an alternative to further education, then you may want to consider beginning your career with Taylor Wimpey, one of the leading UK house builders.
We look for the most talented school leavers with the right attitude who are looking to develop their careers quickly in a fast paced business.
Trainees start by gaining a general appreciation of the business, and complete day release studies to equip them to become qualified professionals. These are fantastic opportunities to join one of our many business units across the UK and learn directly from our teams of specialists and business leaders. You do not need industry specific experience to join us on a management trainee course, just a keen interest in the house building sector and an ambition to progress your career in one of our office based disciplines
If you are looking to begin a career in site management or in one of the on-site trades, then Taylor Wimpey could be exactly what you’re looking for in an employer.
We offer paid apprenticeships across site management, carpentry, bricklaying, plumbing and many more. Our apprenticeships are designed to give you the right balance between classroom learning and hands on experience ensuring you are best placed to be offered a permanent opportunity following your studies. Depending on the trade you opt for and your level of experience, an apprenticeship with Taylor Wimpey should be completed in 3-5 years and you would formally qualify with a level 2 or level 3 diploma in a construction related discipline.
Talented apprentices are the future of our production business and we are investing in relationships across the country with schools and colleges. We are the key sponsor for Buckinghamshire University Technical College Aylesbury and are committed to taking an apprenticeship intake from the college each year into our local sites and business units.
I have been working at Taylor Wimpey full-time (More than 3 years)
Taylor Wimpey is a great organisation that is always striving to be better. For a decentralised organisation, there is a surprisingly consistent culture across all the different business units. People work hard and are rewarded for doing so. There is a huge amount of pride in getting things right and people really care about building high quality homes for our customers. For a FTSE 100 business there is less bureaucracy than you’d expect. Senior management are approachable and the lack of an obvious hierarchy is refreshing. Regardless of your role, your contribution is appreciated.
Excellent reward package and benefits including a cutting edge flexible benefits system. Head office has recently been through a fantastic refurb and technology is improving.
No real draw backs. Industry can be quite insular but really think TW lead the way in diversity, creative thinking and innovation.
Advice to Management
Continue to work on collaboration and effective ways to communicate across all the different businesses
Detailed telephone discussion with head of resourcing, followed by two comprehensive interviews - firstly with head of resourcing and Group Sales & Marketing Director, then with Divisional Chairman and Group HR Director which included a 15min presentation. All were very positive interactions which gave a clear and consistent view of the culture and vision of the business.
