Selecting land

Land is the critical ‘raw material’ for our business and the ability to purchase the right sites in the right locations at the right price and at the right point in the cycle is a key driver of shareholder value.

Managing community engagement and the planning process

Community engagement is all about keeping local people informed and up to date with what we are doing and encouraging them to take part in consultation so that they can have their say on our development proposals. We must do this effectively if we are to design sustainable developments that meet the needs of local residents, are attractive to customers and provide appropriate returns for our business. Getting the homebuilding basics right

We work with selected subcontractors and use carefully sourced materials to make sure that the homes we sell are of a high quality, are built safely, efficiently and cost-effectively and have as little effect as possible on the environment.

Entry Level Employment Programmes

The housebuilding industry is booming and the reported skills shortages in the construction sector confirm the real need for a future pipeline of talent.  

Our apprenticeship, management trainee and graduate schemes offer a structured path into our business. We realise we’re building futures for the next generation and ensure our schemes offer a good grounding in all areas of the housebuilding industry.  You will receive a broad experience to make sure you are well prepared for your chosen route. Whether you are out on site, or in an office environment, you will be guided and looked after by leaders within our company, making sure you have plenty of opportunities to develop a sustainable career with Taylor Wimpey.

Whilst our graduate employees are spread across all business disciplines, our apprenticeship programme is designed for those wanting to progress in the world of Production and Site Management. Our Management Trainees are mainly office based and sit across the business unit disciplines such as Commercial, Technical and Planning. Graduate Schemes

We run several different Graduate Programmes depending on skill set and where your area of study fits within our business. Our general programme is a 2 year rotational scheme divided into 4 separate 6 month placements, where you will spend time in all areas of the Taylor Wimpey business including; production, commercial, technical, sales and marketing, customer service, land and finance. However we also focus on specific disciplines such as finance, construction and technical.

As well as functional breadth we also recognise the importance of diverse geographical exposure as our business units have some subtle but important differences in the way they operate. This will depend on things like the local community, economy and customer base.

Management Trainee Programme

If you are finishing college at 6th form and want to enter the world of work as an alternative to further education, then you may want to consider beginning your career with Taylor Wimpey, one of the leading UK house builders.

We look for the most talented school leavers with the right attitude who are looking to develop their careers quickly in a fast paced business.

Trainees start by gaining a general appreciation of the business, and complete day release studies to equip them to become qualified professionals. These are fantastic opportunities to join one of our many business units across the UK and learn directly from our teams of specialists and business leaders. You do not need industry specific experience to join us on a management trainee course, just a keen interest in the house building sector and an ambition to progress your career in one of our office based disciplines

Apprenticeship Programmes

If you are looking to begin a career in site management or in one of the on-site trades, then Taylor Wimpey could be exactly what you’re looking for in an employer. 

We offer paid apprenticeships across site management, carpentry, bricklaying, plumbing and many more. Our apprenticeships are designed to give you the right balance between classroom learning and hands on experience ensuring you are best placed to be offered a permanent opportunity following your studies. Depending on the trade you opt for and your level of experience, an apprenticeship with Taylor Wimpey should be completed in 3-5 years and you would formally qualify with a level 2 or level 3 diploma in a construction related discipline. 

Talented apprentices are the future of our production business and we are investing in relationships across the country with schools and colleges. We are the key sponsor for Buckinghamshire University Technical College Aylesbury and are committed to taking an apprenticeship intake from the college each year into our local sites and business units.

    I applied online. The process took 2+ months. I interviewed at Taylor Wimpey (Birmingham, England) in February 2019.


    Interviewing with Taylor Wimpey was an incredibly rewarding process and provided a great insight into the company and culture. All the staff are friendly, professional and really encourage you to be your best self; Joe in particular was very supportive and informative throughout. The process can take some time from start to finish, but is very much worth it and I would definitely recommend applying. I was delighted to accept an offer with TW and am excited to start in September!
