Trailfinders – Why Work For Us?

Experts in tailormaking itineraries worldwide, Trailfinders offers unbeatable value and exceptional service.

Trailfinders was founded in 1970 by former SAS officer Mike Gooley with a staff of four. The company remains privately owned but today has a staff of over 1000 and has made travel arrangements for over 15 million clients.

32 travel centres are staffed by the most expert travel consultants in the industry. On hand 7 days a week we are located throughout the UK and Ireland.

With a worldwide reputation, we have the widest range of flights, tours, hotels, cruises, car & motorhome hire across the globe. From budget to luxury our prices are amongst the lowest you will find anywhere.

As the pioneers of tailormade travel we believe there's no substitute for one-on-one, bespoke service. Our travel consultants have between them travelled to over 96% of the world's countries. As a result the service and advice they offer is second to none.

We aim to always exceed the expectations of our clients,
staff and suppliers.

At Trailfinders our aim is

To exceed the expectations of our clients, colleagues and suppliers.

Trailfinders' unrivalled reputation for offering an efficient and friendly service to our clients is attributed entirely to the knowledge, enthusiasm and commitment of our staff.

You would be working for an award winning company, continually recognised by readers of The Guardian & Observer, WHICH?, The Times & Sunday Times, The Telegraph and the Cruise Industry in their annual awards.

We look for well travelled, confident people who are keen to develop a career in sales whilst maintaining a strong focus on client relationships. In return we offer a friendly working environment as well as brilliant travel opportunities and one of the industry's best remuneration packages.

At Trailfinders we sincerely believe that our greatest asset is our staff.

Yes we have high expectations of our staff but we also genuinely reward excellence.
In return for your hard work we offer our Travel Consultants…

  • The most competitive salary in the industry; after two years’ service we would expect Worldwide Consultants to be earning in excess of £33,000 including an uncapped incentive scheme.

  • The best induction training in the industry as well as supportive and comprehensive ongoing coaching and development.

  • Performance related promotions and real career advancement opportunities based on a policy of internal promotion for all specialist and senior sales positions and internal recruitment for many of our head office roles in London.

  • Excellent worldwide travel opportunities including a dedicated Staff Travel Team on hand to assist with your holiday bookings, a generous leave allowance (up to 40 days per year), the opportunity for sales staff to take a period of sabbatical leave and educational trips: this year 50% of Consultants will take part in an educational trip.

  • Annual trip and awards ceremony for our top performers.

  • A friendly and professional environment working with like-minded people who love travel.

  • Great socialising opportunities including supplier functions, team nights out and subsidised departmental Christmas and summer parties.

  • Daily lunch provided on the premises.

  • Corporate Clothing provided to each member of sales and frontline support staff.

  • Contributory pension scheme.

  • Eye-care vouchers.

  • Interest free season ticket loan on public transport.

At Trailfinders we sincerely believe that our greatest asset is our staff.

To maintain our unrivalled and award winning reputation we do have high standards and we need individuals
who have what it takes to exceed expectations.

To succeed at Trailfinders as a Travel Consultant you will have:

  • A confident approach to building rapport and forging exceptional client relationships.

  • Ideally successful experience of working in a target based sales role; otherwise the drive to succeed in an environment designed to reward excellence with proven persuasive and influencing skills and a results orientated nature.

  • A strong worldwide geographical awareness as well as extensive and recent first hand travel experience, with particular preference for travel in Australia & New Zealand, America & Canada or Asia. A sound geographical knowledge of Europe only is required for our specialist Europe Department in Kensington.

  • Previous experience of working in a busy, pressurized office environment, competent PC and keyboard skills with the ability to effectively and quickly manage multiple software applications simultaneously.

  • A good standard of education, ideally to degree level, and the ability to multi task and quickly interpret a large volume of complex information whilst communicating effectively with clients over the phone and face to face.

I have been working at Trailfinders full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Expectations, and standards are high, but if you knuckle down and get through the first few tricky weeks/months as a consultant, growth can be achieved rapidly. With that growth comes better benefits and uncapped bonuses.
I was promoted to team leader after approx 3/4 years and then again to a more senior position in the management team a few years after.
The strength of the brand and the reputation of the TF product and, most importantly, the TF staff mean “twiddling of the thumbs” moments are non-existent. There will always be work to do and enquiries to book.
Biggest pro working for the company; as a colleague said recently, we forget as staff, some of us are fortunate enough to go on “1 or 2 holidays of a lifetime every year”.
Another great thing about TF, I’ve been with them nearly 10 years and met only a very few people in the company I didn’t like.

    Cons

Just some kindly advice for any potential candidate; This is not a Silicon Valley Tech company; there are no chill out rooms replete with bean bags, no complimentary smoothie bars, nor running tracks on the landscapes roof...it is a very client focussed company meaning you are expected to be at your desk pretty much for the whole working day.
Multiple considerations, based on the company’s needs, mean although we get a lot of leave, it can be tricky to actually book the time off.
Open pretty much every bank holiday inc Easter, NY & Xmas Eve, which, although of benefit to some clients, from a staff point of view, can be a tough one to swallow.
