Turnitin – Why Work With Us?

Founded in 1998, Turnitin was built on strong values and we continue to prioritize our values today.

OUR VALUES

Authenticity - Showing up as who we truly are. Representing integrity in our products. Willing to say the tough/unpopular things.

Action & Ownership - Acting quickly, like owners with a bias for action. Willing to change even when it’s hard. Withholding from the blame game.

Global Mindset - Considering different perspectives, celebrating diversity. Acting like one team. Recognizing the work we do has impact on the world.

Passion for Learning - Helping educators and learners on the global front. Committing to our own learning and growth internally. Upholding our corporate social responsibility to education.

WHAT WE STAND FOR

Education - Everyone, worldwide, is entitled to be a literate and engaged member of society. This right is supported by the public funding of schools and universities and should be preserved at all costs.

Speech - The open and global exchange of ideas and trade makes the world a stronger and more interconnected place. Freedom of speech and movement across borders is a necessary part of that global exchange.

Privacy - We advocate for the protection and safeguarding of our users’ data in our interactions with our customers, with other companies, and with governments. Companies must work to maintain user trust in that stewardship.

Access - These principles are true for every person, regardless of nationality, race, gender or religion. Any action that systematically discriminates against any class of people is harmful to the whole of society.

At Turnitin, we are searching for people who are mission-driven and passionate about the efficacy of educators and learners. People, in short, who care about the future of education. Most of us have a story about why we chose Turnitin--and the stories revolve around this shared mission to better student learning and teaching.

We’re a company with the stability of a twenty-year history, the backing of a well-established brand, and a recognized innovator in education. We believe in the future.

To that end, Turnitin believes in social responsibility. We engage in outreach with our local education communities.

As champions of Diversity & Inclusion, we were one of 33 technology companies to sign the first Tech Inclusion Pledge, in which we agreed to complete the following:

  • Implement and publish company-specific goals to recruit, retain, and advance diverse technology talent, and operationalize concrete measures to create and sustain an inclusive culture
  • Annually publish data and progress metrics on the diversity of our technology workforce across functional areas and seniority levels;
  • Invest in partnerships to build a diverse pipeline of technology talent to increase our ability to recognize, develop and support talent from all backgrounds.

This is our team. This is our mission. This is our culture.

I have been working at Turnitin part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Really supportive atmosphere with good collaboration between colleagues and a common sense approach to work life balance. More experienced team members make themselves available to help and answer questions which really accelerates your product learning and makes you part of the team from the outset. Opportunities for continuous development are available if you want to make the most of them. Team leaders and managers encourage you to work to a high standard through sensible positive support and without the distraction of oppressive targets or constant oversight.

    Cons

You will get the best out of working here if you are comfortable using your initiative and common sense. If you prefer a more prescribed workflow this may not be a good fit.
You get too used to having a choice of drinks and food so it makes your home cupboards look bad!

    Application

I applied online. The process took 1+ week. I interviewed at Turnitin (Newcastle upon Tyne, England) in October 2019.

    Interview

Applied. Got an email the same day to arrange a telephone interview the following day. The telephone interview went well, he explained the role and overview of the company, then stated he would get me in for an interview the following Tuesday or Wednesday and would confirm in 1-2 days. 10 days later and after many many attempts to get in touch over a variety of platforms I have still had ZERO communication from Turnitin’s recruitment team. This is very unprofessional and not at all what you’d expect from a company of this size, I wouldn’t mind if the role had been offered to someone else if they had set that expectation rather than discuss interview dates then never respond. Very disappointing.

It is worth noting I applied for another role at Turnitin a year ago, they arranged a telephone interview with the same recruiter and I never heard back from that either. I applied again expecting something better this time around but that clearly is not the case.

I’m sure the company is great the work for but the recruitment process is very disheartening and not up to scratch from my viewpoint.

    Would not recommend.
