Wistia Reviews

Pros
Wistia delivers on its promise to "make business more human". Every Wistian embodies the values, and even as the company evolves and grows with the times, they manage to retain that special cultue of community, fun, and honest work. Although I was let go along with a large part of the team as a cost cutting measure in an economic downturn, I am grateful for my time at Wistia. I learned a ton professionally, was inspired by the creativity of my peers, and above all, made friends for life. Great remote culture, great benefits, great offices, fun people, awesome lore and history, energetic and positive founders, family friendly, good tech.
Cons
It seems that there have been ebbs and flows in Wistia's ability to capitalize on their product's momentum, and to capture a larger portion of the market. The tech is there, the product is there, and the best people are on the job, but somehow, they've been cornered in a certain niche that seems to have inhibited rapid growth. In addition, the larger market forces have set some real obstacles in their path.

Interview
I applied for the position through the company's website and received a response from a recruiter within two weeks. They scheduled an initial phone call, which followed the typical format of introducing myself, discussing my work experience, and explaining why I was interested in the company. After a couple of days, I received a positive response and was invited to a video chat with the hiring manager. Prior to the interview, I was asked to bring raw Figma files, although it wasn't specified how they would be used. Additionally, I received an email informing me that the video chat would be recorded. During the 45-minute video chat, the interviewer asked me about myself and my previous work experience. They mentioned being a visual person and requested that we use the raw Figma files as we discussed specific projects. However, I found the interview frustrating due to frequent interruptions while I was trying to answer their questions. Furthermore, when I inquired about the interviewer's management style, their response was inappropriate for the setting. They even acknowledged their crass language and apologized. As a result, I did not wish to proceed with the hiring process, and they had the same decision. In my follow-up communication, I asked the recruiter for a copy of the recorded interview to reflect on and learn from the experience. Unfortunately, I was not given a response and was effectively ignored. It's also worth noting that the role was later changed from a product designer level to a senior product design level.InterviewWhat were your specific contributions to this project?
