XLN – Why Work With Us?

Helping small businesses make big savings...

XLN for small business is the fastest growing B2B utility company in the UK. As an entrepreneurial company, we take pride in embodying some of the attributes that our Founder & CEO has – fast pace, hard work and extremely high standards. To put it simply, XLN is not for everyone.

undefined

As a team it is our job to not only make sure the company continues to be commercially successful, but to also be a fantastic place to work for people who thrive in an atmosphere of constant challenge!

Our growing team of over 350 employees is based in both London & Sheffield with constant opportunities in all parts of the company.

XLN provides a full range of business services, including telecoms, card processing and energy, specifically tailored to small businesses, providing a level of care and understanding of what is needed unmatched by anyone else.

We’re proud of what we do as a company - our mission is to give a helping hand to the UK’s small businesses, the heroes of the British economy, by giving them world class customer service and great products at the best price.

Leadership

undefined

XLN's Founder Christian Nelleman started XLN in 2002 after seeing the window of opportunity that deregulation had created within the small business market.

His aim was to champion small business by using the collective buying power of many thousands of otherwise disenfranchised businesses, to deliver meaningful savings and great customer service on essential services.

Christian is the UK’s only serial entrepreneur to pick up the Ernst & Young, Entrepreneur of the Year award, twice. In 2006, after having been a finalist for 4 years running, Christian was the winner of the Entrepreneur of the Year Award for Technology and Communication in the London & South East Region. Remarkably, in 2010 he again won the London & South Region as well as the National Entrepreneur of the Year Award for Business Products and Services.

As such, he was introduced to Ernst & Young’s prestigious Global Hall of Fame, an elite corps of men and women who have been recognized for their exceptional entrepreneurial achievements. He is one of only 13 individuals to be inducted into the Hall of Fame in the last 15 years.

More recently, Christian won national CEO of the Year in the BVCA Management Team Awards and Finance Monthly's CEO of the Year award in 2015.

In his spare time you’ll find Christian spending time with his family or on the golf course.

When it comes to working at XLN, we approach things with attitude...

undefined

The XLN attitude that is!

One that is packed full of our company values – Professionalism, Reliability, Integrity, Dedication, Efficiency – or PRIDE as we like to call it.

So whether dealing with customers, talking to each other or simply just going about your everyday work, do it with PRIDE. And you’ll find that the more you take them on board, the greater the rewards, whether in bonuses, promotions and all round careers development.

We’re constantly looking at ways to make the XLN work life fun and rewarding.

Here’s a few of them…

  • Colleague Recognition Awards – Every month, we like to recognise those who’ve gone the extra mile at XLN and reward them for doing just that. The team nominate a few exemplary individuals who have displayed the PRIDE values in their work - the winners receive £250 vouchers of their choice and are then entered into the running for the ultimate Colleague of the Year Award!
  • XLN Intercom – Weekly updates on all things trending in and around XLN, stay in tune with the latest company news, events, and social gatherings.
  • Sports & Social – Work hard then play hard within your department and company-wide. Join our 5-a-side football team, enjoy Friday drinks or get trained up for Tough Mudder!

It’s the little things that make a big difference.

We all work better when the working environment is brilliant and you’ll discover XLN has all sorts of little things which make it a great place to work.

  • Monday Morning Booster - Kick start your week with fresh fruit...
  • Dress down Friday – Take it easy on a Friday and come to work in casual clothes
  • Free Breakfast Friday – Make Friday your cheat day and treat yourself to a bacon sarnie, chocolate muffin or other goodies!

Proud to be Carbon Neutral

What do small businesses and the rainforest have in common?

XLN loves both of them. XLN is CarbonNeutral® and since achieving Carbon Neutral certification in 2009, we’ve neutralised all the unavoidable greenhouse gases we emit through heating, lighting, travel, waste and paper used. In fact, all of the CO2 we produce in delivering out great-value series is offset in verified carbon projects.

Our partner for this programme is the Carbon Neutral Company. One of the projects we are currently supporting is Rimba Raya REDD+ in Borneo, which preserves carbon-dense tropical peat swamps which are threatened by the deforestation of roughly 47,000 hectares of forest.

Meet Saj he's a Broadband Technical Advisor at XLN for small business...

What was it about XLN that made you want to join?

When I left Sky, I didn’t want another call centre job.

I decided that I’d had enough of the big corporate businesses and when I looked into working for XLN, the amount of opportunity I would have access to surprised me.

I think it’s that special difference XLN has; it’s a fraction of the size of the likes of Sky or BT but has a hundred times the amount of opportunity to develop and progress.

What would you say to someone who was considering joining XLN?

undefined

Don’t hesitate. It’s a company that you need to join. It’s only my opinion, but it’s much better than the massive organisations out there. Also it’s a welcoming place, everyone says hello. Might sound strange but I’ve worked in places where nobody speaks!

What do you like best about XLN?

Working in tech, it’s all about being able to solve a problem and give people the best service. So I’d have to say the systems we use. We don’t have massive budgets because it’s all about saving our customers money. That said we have the best in-house systems in place to enable me to do what we need to do.

I also like that it’s obvious that if I do my job and do it well that there is obvious progression and I can’t wait to see what the future holds for me.

How would you describe your XLN journey so far?

It’s just an XLN company to work for! I got progression within a month as I covered for my Team Manager whilst she was on holiday for 2 weeks and I’ve only been here for 3 months. I’m also doing some reporting and floor support. I’m really happy I made the decision to join!

Meet David... he's a Software Developer at XLN for small business.

undefined

What was it about XLN that made you want to join us?

I liked the structure of the business and the fact it was a bigger team. I was sold on the fact I would have a clear career path too.

How would you describe your XLN journey so far?

IT’s been really straight forward. I’ve still got a lot to learn about the industry but I’m excited about the future! Also everything is just that bit better than where I’ve worked before!

What do you like best about XLN?

I like the way the team develop: Agile and Scrum teams. It was really great that I could be productive and add value from day 1, I was given tasks immediately and guided through what needed to be done. The team is really great!

What would you say to someone who was considering joining XLN?

Go for it. It’s the best place I’ve worked and I’m so pleased about that.

I have been working at XLN full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

I have been an employee at XLN for around 7 months and I really enjoy it so far. There is a very youthful environment, everyone is really friendly and I have an excellent team to help support me. I started a personal business venture and I have been very overwhelmed with the the support from the company and I will be eternally grateful. They truly believe promoting from within and I am surrounded by people who have worked their way up which is very encouraging. There's free fruit on a Monday and free breakfasts on a Friday so you can't really go wrong with that.

    Cons

Breakfast is amazing but could be more more healthy options ... could be more fruit?
