The ZEAL Group has offices in London, Madrid and Hamburg. Our staff come from all around the world - over 25 nationalities and growing! Personal development

In a fast-changing working environment, continuous learning is essential. We, therefore, offer every employee the opportunity to extend their knowledge by attending external seminars at least once per year. The annual performance review helps guarantee fairness with regard to assessment, feedback, strengths, development areas and salary.

Our Engineering Team consists of 10+ full-stack engineers in our London office, as well as team members in Madrid and Hamburg to help create world class web & mobile based lottery and instant win games for target markets around the world. Partnering with charities and other organisations you and the team will be helping to build engaging, social games for their users and fans to help them create new revenue streams and better ways to engage their customer bases. 

The team is working to clear and sane deadlines to create, improve and support front- and back-end code for core gameplay features and all of the related infrastructure and management of our games. The team works within a framework of fortnightly sprints, with a comprehensively automated testing pipeline and continuous deployment. We share responsibility for ensuring all our code is clear, robust, well documented, unit tested and peer-reviewed. Code quality here is far from a box-ticking exercise: engineers here take the initiative in proposing – and implementing – improvements to our standards, processes, tools and systems. All engineers here write production code from their first week onwards.

A supportive environment

We have a thorough onboarding process – including mentoring and up-to-date “what you need to know” guide – that takes new employees through all the tools, frameworks and processes that they need to know to do the job.

Each person is assigned a technical mentor (for any programming questions they have) and everyone on the team will be happy to guide them around anything else they need to know about working here.

Moreover, our commitment to continuous learning and development is very strong. Our experience is that developers learn faster and better when they are acquiring practical knowledge and skills from colleagues and putting it directly to use solving real problems – rather than sitting in a classroom working on abstract or “toy” problems.

Any new engineering hire at Geonomics will find themselves surrounded by some of London’s brightest and most capable developers, all of whom are approachable and willing to help.


What we care about

We value ability, aptitude and motivation much more highly than the exact list of technologies and frameworks that you know, what industries you’ve worked in, or how well we recognise your past employers. We very much value integrity, the ability to do what you say you are going to do, and to care about treating every single one of our customers fairly.

Some basic familiarity with probability would be useful. We are building lottery and instant win games after all. Much more important than that, however, is a good attention to detail and an ability to be actively involved in trade-off discussions about how to engineer software to meet the business’s short- and long-term needs.

In terms of coding experience, it would certainly help if you’re familiar with full-stack development (including using relational databases and related frameworks such as Hibernate and Spring) in a commercial environment. Experience with JavaScript (ES6 and React) would be useful. Experience with developing within a micro-services architecture would also be a plus.

Tech Stack

Technology is at the heart of what we do: we are in the process of building a scalable, high-performance multi-tenant micro service software platform that will serve the business for many years to come. We use a number of different technologies including Java 8, Docker, Spring Boot, React, SASS and PostgreSQL. We don’t expect you to know all of these before you arrive. It’s the job of the rest of the team to help you quickly get up to speed on everything you need to know – from new frameworks to how our build system works.

In terms of equipment, each engineer has a high-end PC or laptop along with dual 27-inch monitors. Engineers use either Linux or macOS to develop on.

Helping our Community 

The Good Neighbourhood Fund

In 2014, ZEAL affiliated company MyLotto24 set up The Good Neighbourhood Fund, through the London Community Foundation. The Fund enables people to overcome challenges in their local neighbourhoods and improve their quality of life.

The London Community Foundation’s expertise in reaching grassroots initiatives and community organisations ensures that funding reaches those that need it most.


THE MARIE KEATING FOUNDATION

The Marie Keating Foundation, based in Ireland, was set up by her family after her death from breast cancer. The type of cancer she suffered was easily treatable, but Marie died because she did not know enough about cancer and the importance of early detection.

The Foundation offers a range of cancer awareness and support services with a key focus on ensuring that men, women and families are provided with the necessary information to prevent cancer or detect it at its earliest stages. MyLotto24 (Tipp24.ie) contributes to the Comfort Fund. The Fund provides financial assistance to people who are currently receiving treatment for any kind of cancer, and who, as a result, find themselves in financial difficulty.

THE COMMUNITY FOUNDATION FOR IRELAND (CFI)

The Community Foundation for Ireland was established in 2000 with the intention of helping to grow philanthropy in Ireland and building a permanent fund to support charitable causes. CFI is part of a global network of community foundations. MyLotto24 also undertakes grant-making in association with The London Community Foundation.

We have set up the Tipp24 Fund which will be administered by The Community Foundation for Ireland and will be supporting a number of grassroots projects, working on the ground in Ireland. Our aim is to support projects who are working front line in their local community, tackling difficult and challenging issues.
