Maintaining technical skills in leadership positions

On Thursday 9 May we were proud to partner with Women in Data UK to host our first meet-up event for the data science community at our HQ in London. We believe in the importance of hosting these events to support women in the industry to network, develop new skills, and make progress in their careers by fostering a community of support.

  • One in four of us have suffered or will suffer from mental ill health at some point in our lifetime, yet many are reluctant to talk about it. At dunnhumby we want to encourage a culture where people feel comfortable to speak out and share how they feel, and to provide practical means of support. Which is why we're very excited to introduce dh Thrive – our employee-led, business-supported movement focussing on the mental health and emotional wellbeing of people at dunnhumby. Launching across our UK & Ireland offices in May, we’re then aiming to build on the initial launch and roll out across our global offices in the future. It's time to talk | Launching dh Thrive

stig ? ma a mark of disgrace or infamy; a stain or reproach, as on one's reputation. Stigma erodes confidence that mental illnesses are real, treatable heath conditions. Stigma means erecting barriers around effective treatment and recovery. It's time to take those barriers down. It's time to end the stigma.

We are the global leader in Customer Data Science, empowering businesses to compete and thrive in the data-driven economy.

Our science sets us apart and at dunnhumby you’ll have the opportunity to work on ground-breaking technology delivering extraordinary impact for our customers.

You’ll be part of a community, develop friendships and enjoy inspiring and challenging work. We hire diverse and interesting people who help each other succeed.  We continuously seek to build an environment of inclusion, equality and respect because we know that will make us the best business we can be.

We believe that learning and development never stops. Contribution, ingenuity, and genius are all rewarded with extra responsibility, a variety of new challenges, and career mobility, as well as competitive salaries and a performance-based bonus scheme.

Our values are more than four words on a page. They are the force that drive us each day and together they create our unique culture, which we think makes us a great place to work.

Passion - It all starts with the customer

Curiosity - Listen…Ask questions…Explore

Courage - We are ambitious and Decisive

Collaboration - Together, We Grow One dunnhumby

We nurture a culture built on our strong beliefs and values where we treat each other as we wish to be treated. We also make a positive contribution to our workplace, community, environment and marketplace through collective and individual responsibility.

Our employees demonstrate this passion for, and commitment to, providing a positive contribution to our communities in two ways: by volunteering their time and effort on community betterment projects, and by supporting and contributing to charities selected by dunnhumby employees through events, fund-raising, and donations.

Helping Hands

Our Helping Hands teams in each market inspire employees to make a difference in the dunnhumby communities around the world.

We provide volunteering opportunities across the globe in any of our employee engagement programmes.

We support a number of organisations around the globe including; Habitat for Humanity, American Cancer Society, The Society for Child Development (Gurgaon), CentrePoint UK, Ronald McDonald House.

Green Team

Through our Green Team, our goal is to make a positive contribution to our workplace, community, environment and marketplace through collective and individual responsibility by providing educational resources and social connections for dunnhumby employees.

Some activities include:

  • Annual Plantation drive in India - we pledge to plant as many saplings as the number of employees in the Gurgaon office and this year, we planted 500 saplings
  • To reduce plastic waste we gave each of our employees reusable metal water bottles and made the change from plastic milk bottles to glass bottles

Diversity and inclusion

dunnhumby's spirit of community and the diversity of our people's skills, backgrounds and experiences makes us stronger. We continuously seek to build an environment of inclusion, equality and respect because we know that will make us the best business we can be.

For us, diversity and inclusion (D&I) is not just about a series of initiatives, it's about changing behaviours, challenging norms and embedding skills into all areas of our business – a thread that runs through everything we do at dunnhumby.

For us, reward is more than just our salary. From the every-day thank yous for a job well done to the social get-togethers for the fun-lovers; it's working in great offices, with even greater people - networking globally to collaborate, innovate and deliver value.

We also have a host of professional, social, and financial benefits tailored to suit the needs of each of the countries in which we work.

Whether you’re looking for a valuable short-term experience or stepping into your first job, dunnhumby offers a number of opportunities tailored to smart, ambitious students and recent graduates. Many of our senior leaders in the business today started out in one of our programmes.

From summer internships to accelerated training and role rotation, we strive to make our university programmes challenging and rewarding. Your first few weeks are in intensive, jump-start training to develop your understanding of dunnhumby’s ways of working, the use of our tools and capabilities, the FMCG and retail industry, and technical training on the tools we use to customise our work for our clients.

We are also building an exciting apprenticeship scheme which will create a sustainable pipeline of new talent for our business. This is a unique opportunity to offer jobs and training to digital natives who want to pursue a career in the Tech, Insight and Media space.

For Interns: Gain in-depth exposure to our work, adding value in projects over a three-month period. This is a great scheme to explore if dunnhumby is the place for you and to be considered for a place on one of our graduate programmes. The Summer Intern Programme is available in UK, US & India.

For Graduates: Our 18-month rotational programmes in Technology and Commercial are designed to give graduates breadth and depth of exposure across our business areas. The knowledge and experience that comes from this will set you up as future innovators and individuals who will be fast tracked into leadership roles within our key businesses. Some of the programmes we offer include: Graduate Development Programme (US) and Graduate Training Programme (UK & India).

I have been working at dunnhumby full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Ambitious company, great culture, good community, smart people, good tech stack, everyone is helpful, good work/life balance, flexible hours, early finish Fridays - all in all, a decent place to work

    Cons

For people in tech, there is no official training offered, it's very much you learn on the job, which is good (and often better) in many ways, but to compliment that by offering proper training would be highly useful and effective. Allowing employees a training budget and some say over how to spend it would be beneficial. The company is growing and changing a lot, which means sometimes it can feel unstable and uncertain, but I suppose that is inevitable for a company trying to grow.
