Our strategy

Rank's aim is to be the UK's leading multi-channel gaming operator. We are focused on building brands with the ability to deliver them via the channels our customers prefer whether that is through one of our 154 venues, or through our online or mobile solutions.

There are five components to our strategy:

1. CREATING A COMPELLING MULTI-CHANNEL OFFER

In the markets where we operate, Rank is one of the few gaming companies in a position to provide customers with a genuine multi-channel gaming offer. We have a number of key assets, including a portfolio of 154 venues, our membership-based model with approximately three million members, our loyalty and reward programmes and the high levels of engagement that our team members enjoy with customers.

2. BUILDING DIGITAL CAPABILITY

Rank has built strong positions in venue-based gaming which we seek to replicate across our digital channels (online and mobile). In 2015/16, our digital operations generated 13% of Group revenue, whereas digital channels now represent around 39% of Great Britain’s gambling market (excluding National Lottery). This presents a significant growth opportunity. We are in the process of enhancing our capability in this area such that we can meet the changing needs of our customers and capture a greater share of the digital market.

3. DEVELOPING OUR VENUES

Our casino and bingo venues remain a material part of Rank’s business, providing entertainment for millions of customers each year and generating the majority of the Group’s revenue and profits. By continuing to invest in our venues (in terms of product, environment and service) and by creating new ones, we are constantly evolving and enhancing the experiences that we offer to customers,  and in doing so growing our revenue. 

4. INVESTING IN BRANDS AND MARKETING

The development of a group of well-defined, relevant and resonant brands is critical for the success of our ambition. Rank possesses a number of well-known brands with strong levels of affinity amongst customers. Continuing to invest in and develop these brands, alongside new ones, is an important part of increasing and sustaining revenues.

5. USING TECHNOLOGY TO DRIVE EFFICIENCY AND IMPROVE CUSTOMER EXPERIENCE

The customer is at the heart of our focus on increasing the use of technology in our business and driving efficiency. Improved customer experience and operating margins can help create a competitive advantage. OUR APPROACH

With a business as diverse as Rank’s, our people requirements are similarly diverse. For some specialist roles, such as those in IT, Finance, Marketing, Legal, Property, Digital UX, we look for experience of role specific skills in our candidate applications that will ensure we only hire the very best talent in the market. Sometimes there is no substitute for knowledge and ‘been there done it’.

But for many other roles across our brands such as Receptionists, Croupiers, Cashiers, Team Members etc. we hire primarily for attitude, behaviour and values – with the right raw materials we know we can train in the necessary technical skills. Above all we want to be confident that every one of our customer facing employees will deliver THE most exceptional customer experience possible – and this is first and foremost down to personality.

All this means that the recruitment process needs to be flexible to accommodate the different attributes and skills we seek – so for some roles you will be invited to submit just your CV, whereas for others we may offer you the opportunity to complete a 3 dimensional online talent profile – your opportunity to stand out and promote yourself, and our opportunity to understand the person behind the CV.

Some roles will follow a structured competency based interview format designed to identify how you will operate in the role and how up to date and developed your technical skills are, whereas others will focus more on your interpersonal skills and may include assessments, role play, quizzes and getting to know our products. If you are going to enjoy working in front of customers you’ll need to be comfortable with our products and being in the limelight!

We are continually re-imagining our interview and selection process to ensure it identifies the key attributes that we seek and to give YOU the most insightful experience possible.     Pros

    Beautiful new support office in Maidenhead - it is a fantastic environment and has clearly been a significant investment, which is really great for staff to come and work in a brilliant atmosphere! The culture is ace!
    The CEO is great - he has an open door policy where if there is ever a problem, he asks that you come and speak to him or other management members directly.
    Some great perks such as onsite gym, free tea and coffee, a real treat for all!
    The people at Rank are lovely, friendly and helpful.
    The Digital team is just incredible - it is such a great atmosphere around that team with a real 'start-up' feel.
    Plenty of parking at the new office :)
    I absolutely love working at Rank, and I would recommend it to anyone!

    Application

    I applied through a recruiter. The process took 2+ months. I interviewed at the Rank Group (Maidenhead, England).

    Interview

    The interview process was a 4-stage interview, initially an interview with the Director of Talent Acquisition, followed by an interview with the Property Director and Director of Talent, then a personality test online, and finally an interview with the CEO. It was clear from the first stage interview, that Rank would be interested in me as an individual - there were questions about me and my interests and what I would like to develop in myself as well as where I would like to be career-wise in the future. This, along with the 4-stage interview (the company clearly cared about who they were appointing), and what I learned about Rank through those interviews, made it clear to me this would be a place I would be happy at in my career.
