Pros

-Competitive hourly pay rates -Benefits among the best in class -First pay increase is guaranteed at 1 year -Strong work ethic can, when noticed, lead to select progression opportunities -All the overtime you can eat. ($100k is possible even at New Hire pay)

Cons

-Middle management is severely bloated in certain areas and has a fair share of unqualified people in critical positions -Allows “poor workers ” to continue to perform poorly without repercussion. -Training severely lacking in key areas -Poor implementation of equipment maintenance program. -Underdeveloped culture all around. The place doesn’t seem to have quite found its footing yet

Pros

-A large company which allows for good job security -So much confusion and no streamlined processes that you can basically do whatever you want… Good or Bad

Cons

Low Salary Pay-scale -Check around for other engineering positions in the Mobile area. The salary pay-scale at AM/NS hasn’t changed much over the last 10 years even though the cost of living has increased exponentially over this same time frame. Also, don’t be fooled when HR gives you an offer letter with a “possible” 20% bonus. We haven’t had a 20% bonus in the past and the last few have been very low almost non existent. It’s more of a slap in the face than anything else. ~ Disconnected COO -Phil Fultz our COO started at AM/NS with “guns blazing” a few years back. Over his time here he has succeeded in turning most of the mill level employees against him. No regard or consideration is given even while people are leaving the company directly because of his attitude and changes he has made. I’m not sure where Phil came from but I know we would all love for him to go back to wherever that may be. Where is our CEO while this is happening? I’m sure he’s daydreaming about where he can go next from all this “success” here in Calvert. I use to be proud of where I work, but it’s starting to get old keeping the lines running while upper management slaps each other on the back and continues making policy that will ultimately be the companies downfall. I know of many employees just waiting to leave AM/NS, and I can’t say that I blame them… ~ No Standard Processes -Each day expect to come into work not sure of what may be required of you or even what your responsibilities are. We follow no formal processes and each department has their own plan. Why can’t we get C-Level leadership who will stand up for the employees instead of running the company into the ground? I’m sure it doesn’t help that during upper level management meetings Phil flies off the handle and berates team members who speak up. You know what happens to people who surround themselves with liars and people pleasers… Maybe ask a dictator such as Putin? ~ No Path to Advance -There may be advancement, there may not be advancement. It all depends on who you are friends with. There is for sure no clear path. Once you are topped out in your position, both hourly and salary, you’re stuck. ~ Long Commute -The plant is located far from most desirable areas to live. The cost of gas is a big consideration.
