I worked at APCO Worldwide full-time

    Pros

    - really interesting clients - very clever colleagues, from a wide range of backgrounds and nationalities

    Cons

    - always busy, can be quite high pressure - given it's a global agency it can be hard to ignore emails in the evening etc

We are very glad to hear that you enjoyed your time with us. Thank you for sharing your experience on Glassdoor and wishing you all the best in your new role! Perhaps our paths will cross again one day.

I worked at APCO Worldwide full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Nice people, relaxed culture (not at all hierarchical), great international exposure and I found them to be very supportive. I'm not sure what the negative feedback on finance relates to, there was no bullying from my experienced or instances of making fun of people. The team was small (around 11) and actually apart from a few bad eggs that left along the way, the team worked well together and have on average all been there more than a couple of years. You get out, what you put in!

    Cons

APCO is no different to any other business, at times the hours are long but in finance that seemed to apply more to senior members of the team and not to the juniors unless it was month end. Sometimes having to do things because of the US parent was annoying, but again comes with being part of an international team. Lack of recognition for teams outside of the US was a bigger issue.

I worked at APCO Worldwide full-time

    Pros

There are absolutely no pros about this company. It mentally and emotionally broke me. I was treated like absolute dirt and often ignored or given filthy looks. I was bullied by senior management

    Cons

Finance are bullies. I have never felt so sick just by coming into work. Being made fun of and hearing horrible things about past staff from directors. Then being treated like a slave with zero appreciation. Day by day I was getting depressed and anxious from the way I was treated here

I am deeply concerned by your comments and am so sorry to hear that you felt this way. We take very seriously our employees’ well-being and overall experience and we have a zero tolerance for bullying behavior. This is certainly not in line with APCO’s culture and values. I would like to understand more about what happened, so that I can take steps to address the issues you raise. I worked at APCO Worldwide full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

    - Opportunity to work collaboratively with employees in other global offices - Intelligent people with international experience - More freedom to take on different responsibilities in accounts regardless of your level

    Cons

    - Most work is low budget with little impact - Long hours with juniors consistently being overworked. You are expected to be online 24/7 - Low pay from entry to senior consultant level - Consistent complaints about senior staff that fall on deaf ears - No training provided - Bad work culture and complete disregard for employee welfare - a money driven company exclusively - Traditional environment that struggles to keep up to date with the rest of the industry - Many of the 5 star reviews below have been written by management or HR

I have been working at APCO Worldwide full-time for more than a year

    Pros

I have been at APCO for two years now and I still love coming into the office every day. I know that every firm says this, but the people here are genuinely some of the industry’s loveliest, most talented and brightest people who also have an incredible sense of humour to match. Colleagues, no matter their location or seniority genuinely care about each other and regularly go out of the way to help each other. It’s probably because of our size, but so many staff here regularly travel to other locations and know colleagues far afield on a personal basis which likely helps. MDs and leadership are very supportive and encouraging of employees gaining international experience (of course speaking to our mantra of “one global firm”), and people are regularly offered opportunities for short-term business travel, yearly secondments or international transfers. I haven’t felt this at other firms I’ve worked for, where MDs would keep hold of talent in their office for revenue sake – often hindering career development and growth and ultimately leading to that top talent leaving the firm for another. What I most love though, is the opportunity to come in and be me. To have little hand-holding, and to just get on with what I do best. It’s incredibly refreshing and incredibly empowering.

    Cons

As with any agency, we all work really hard to provide the best service we can for clients and sometimes that does call for periods of really knuckling down as a team to get things done. I do know that I feel recognized for going the extra mile and appreciated. When it’s busy, it’s great to have the support of so many colleagues who I am lucky enough to call friends outside of the office. Change is a constant at agencies and we are going through a slight period of transformation. I’m sure there will be bumps along the way as we get it right, but I’m really excited to see where we’re headed.

Thank you for taking the time to share feedback! We appreciate your thoughts and we are so glad you are enjoying your experience here. We are always happy to hear from employees so if you have additional feedback to share, please do.

I worked at APCO Worldwide full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Opportunity to travel - as long as you’re open to where you travel.

    Cons

I received awful treatment from this company from start to finish - APCO completely mis-advertised my role and little support was given. I had moments during my employment where I’d leave the office in tears and constant states of panic - on one occasion I was taken into an office with two senior members of staff, without being told what the meeting was in relation to and without asking, I was shouted at over a version of things that weren’t true, based on something a member of staff had lied about. Once proving these issues were not true (luckily having evidenced things in writing) I received no apologies and subsequently the member of staff involved began to overload me with work, I often had to stay up past midnight and work weekends to get work completed, based on unfair timelines and under resourcing - a mix of not caring for employee welfare, but also, more worryingly at times, this felt like bullying. Unfortunately APCO are very behind the times in relation to their approach to many aspects of their work, namely culture and project management processes.

I have been working at APCO Worldwide full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

    Based in Covent Garden

    Cons

These days APCO is known mostly for internal bullying and harassment. The work is most often insignificant, for unfavourable companies and there is no work culture. Constantly trying to squeeze margins to improve profitability at the expense of their employees.
