Not adding up to the sum of its parts

Pros

Very strong tech, raw clinical performance. Some really talented, genuinely nice people working hard in pockets throughout the org united via the overall mission to improve health for 1Bn. Beautiful offices in Berlin

Cons

No tangible overall strategy which has the additional effect of undermining managers who seek to motivate and direct their teams. A lot of workforce (esp. ops department) generating red tape rather than effective processes which unite and drive everyone to the same goal. Product management goals not aligned to commercial targets and have been allowed to exist without a product roadmap for >12 months. No meaningful enterprise/ product marketing output to support client acquisition despite large numbers of the company in the marketing department.

Pros

Some phenomenal individual contributors, managed by excellent managers. Interesting tech. Remote-first. Good salary.

Cons

Senior leadership driving the business with zero metrics driving decision making (and wasting extraordinary amounts of engineering effort!). No transparency on the state of the business until many people are are secretly made redundant and they have to explain why colleagues and team leaders have vanished. People referred to as "resources" by the majority of leadership.

Pros

- a great mission to work for - warm and friendly company culture - talented and welcoming colleagues - working in small cross-functional teams each individual can have their impact - leadership is open to feedback - constantly improving communication within the organisation - very professional IT support - taking data privacy and medical safety seriously

Cons

- Changes in senior management have come with changes in organisational structure. This had an impact on team structures. - Communication between teams could be improved. - There are many levels of seniority so information and updates come down to individual contributors via many mediators.
