I worked at Advanced full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

    - Central location - Free tea and coffee - Good stepping stone for people who are fresh out of university - Some great colleagues. To all you beautiful people, leave, don't waste your life away. Grass is greener on the other side!

    Cons

    - HPEL scheme is a scam to delay paying market rate for the role for as long as possible - Company does not act in accordance with its own HR policies - Communication between departments is virtually non-existent - Sales vs the rest of the company - Constant resource cutting causes instability and ultimately negatively affects the customers - UK development team was made redundant, developers in India have no clue - Can be a very stressful place to work at, not only because of constant staff shortages, but incompetent managers with zero people skills - During my time there, a few hard workers were let go due to one too many sick days. In the meantime, if you turn up and do minimal work, you can get away with it. - Very high turnover of staff due to reasons mentioned above - Very poor maternity policy

"Women paid 22% less than men, bad management, and HPEL Scheme looks good on paper, not good long term"

I have been working at Advanced full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Office is fantastic, atmosphere in the office is generally very good and some excellent staff members.

    Cons

Where shall I start? Well lets starts with the newly published fact that women are paid 22% less than the men in Advanced. It is one of the most misogynistic places I have ever known. A technology company it may be, but its not run on innovation, its run on Sales, and the boys club runs the company. I have witnessed sexism almost daily, and nothing is done about it, the girls are actively pressured to ignore it. 72% of staff company wide are men, and nothing is being done to combat the culture. In fact, graduates on the sales side are becoming more of a problem if anything. The last intake of grads on the Sales team was 8 men 2 women. Then the HPEL scheme. Looks great, start on 20k, payrise every six months, then come off the scheme on 24k. Only, it doesn't matter how hard you work, you get the same. Doesn't matter what job you are doing, you get the same. The whole thing breeds mediocrity, you get no incentive for excelling. The training is a joke, at the end of one section, the test is literally anagrams of word mentioned in the training! Once off the scheme, no payrise for six months. And dont think you will be promoted, because there are 100 plus graduates all going for the same job. If you do get promoted, dont think you will be paid fairly. The actual job you get will have the word 'Associate' in front of it, meaning you will be paid half of what the experienced staff will. HR policy (from the mouth of an HR business partner) is they would rather hire someone external on a higher salary than negotiate with an internal candidate. Staff are treated like complete garbage Benefits are 4% bonus (why even bother?!), and that is it. The company is so segmented that nobody knows what one department does to the other, and the blame culture is at another level, management will not take responsibility for anything. There is no accountability for any wrong doing, people can do whatever they want, senior management is not strong enough to stand up to any of their subordinates. To get what you want, just shout really loud, eventually they will back down. Unless you are HPEL that is, then you don't matter Recruitment policy is also a joke. The recruitment team review all candidates for a job, then arrange interviews for the hiring manager. The manager never gets to see a CV of a candidate. They have no idea how suitable they are, its all based on what the recruitment team say. The churn of staff is farcical in some departments. Lastly and by no means least, most of the developers have been made redundant and outsourced to India. They boast about creating hundreds of jobs, they are jobs they made redundant elsewhere in the country.

Thanks for your comments and for taking the time to stop by. Like many technology companies, we do have a Gender Pay gap, but we are working very hard to close it by developing pay and development structures which are objective, consistent and fair. We discuss the actions we are taking, as well as explaining why we don't use CVs at length in our Gender Pay Gap report, available on our website. We have worked hard to create a positive environment and experience for all so naturally I am concerned by some of your comments and would really like to understand your feedback in more detail. In order to help me understand and escalate your concerns, please contact me directly for a confidential conversation - nick.gallimore@oneadvanced.com

    I worked at Advanced full-time

    Pros

There are still some really good people there if you can find them. Most of them are moving or being moved on.

    Cons

Since the buyout by Vista, this company has gone downhill. From having decent benefits like share save to not getting any pay rises. The company is then pulled apart by closing offices with knowledgable staff, meaning that staff are either made redundant (no enhancements for this, just the government minimum and there’s no budging the company) or staff being told they can work from home. And then those ‘lucky’ enough to work from home are then told their job roles are being moved to India, stating that it’s far from ideal so many are working from home. And who’s fault was that? So those who have years of product knowledge have left, leaving it to the graduates and those in India to work through the issues. Advanced ‘pride’ themselves as being ONE Advanced. Well, that’s a joke in itself as departments are not allowed to ask each other questions without it going via team leaders. Last summer, Advanced told staff how wonderful we all were and shared the NPS scores. The survey was done again in December, but results never shared. How are staff supposed to know what to improve at? Many of the team leaders/managers have no real idea what their staff actually do. Yes, they may know the basics, but would not be able to step in to help with an actual product issue. If you’re an account manager, you are quite likely to get chosen to go on an all expenses paid trip to somewhere nice. As I wasn’t Sales, I stopped paying any real interest in where they were going. I think it may have been Sicily this year, and it will be Toronto next year. If you’re not in Sales, there is a slim chance you will be chosen if your face fits.

I have been working at Advanced full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

The people. Even now there are some excellent people who are passionate about building great product and providing the best customer service possible. The sort of people any half decent company would value highly and want to keep. Tragically most of these people have left or are leaving soon

    Cons

Everything else When American venture capitalists buy a company you expect cuts and reorganisation, but Vista/Gordon Wilson have embarked on an extreme and reckless form of this, which most people don't think will end well. Most UK offices have been closed with large numbers of long serving, skilled and knowledgeable staff made redundant. Staff morale is on the floor, with people who have worked for the company for many years are leaving or thinking of leaving. Just before last Christmas the UK development teams were told most of them would be made redundant, with their jobs going to India. Experience, product, customer and business sector knowledge, vital to the long term success of the company, has been casually thrown away thrown away simply to cut the wage bill for the next couple of years. The future of advanced many specialist and often UK focussed products are now in the hands of graduates in India. In truth we will struggle to support much of the software we now sell, let alone be able to move it forward. The situation is a complete disaster and an absolute disgrace.

    Pros

There are still some great employees

    Cons

Those great employees that are in Development or QA, with all their years of expertise and experience, are soon to be made redundant, with their roles going to inexperienced graduates in India who have little or no knowledge of the product or the market the product is aimed at - as some of those products are for the NHS, there is a REAL risk that the software will very soon be unfit for purpose.

I have been working at Advanced

    Pros

There are no reasons as to why you would want to work for this company. The highly knowledgeable and experienced R and D teams are being made redundant and replaced with very cheap and very inexperienced labour in India (I feel sorry for these guys) in order to make staff costs minimal.

    Cons

There are far too many to mention- any current employees should be looking for new jobs if they are not being made redundant. Potential customers should definitely look elsewhere for similar products where the company will treat you with respect and not look to fleece you for as much money as possible. The inexperienced support teams are already struggling badly and when the UK R and D teams leave in the next few months then it will be an absolute disaster. All this is being done in order to sell the company with profit margins looking as high as possible, if you are looking to buy this company then I would strongly suggest that you read the other reviews on this site before you go any further.

I have been working at Advanced full-time

    Pros

The main offices are nice Staff are hard working

    Cons

U.K. r&d teams are in their entirety in the process of being made redundant. They are being replaced with inexperienced university leavers at several Indian cities It is clear that the board do not care about this or they would not be happy to suffer such a loss of experience It is no longer a U.K. company as it is owned by American capitalists and staffed mostly in India.

    Pros

Free fruit, thats all I can think of

    Cons

Decided 2 weeks before Christmas to tell R&D that they will be made redundant so they can ship the jobs over to India for cheap labour, having worked with these people for some time they dont know what they are doing and in the process will make years worth of quality software into a poorly developed and poorly tested mess. Using the excuse that we have 140 home workers in England which they dont want so they would rather have 150 people in a different time zone who struggle with basic English. Vista seem to be happy will decimating the company so they are barely able to work then no doubt they will sell the company on for a huge profit. You will see all the positive reviews are from young grads or heples [as management like to call them] in Birmingham who are working for cheap labour [see the link!!] But dont worry everyone got a smug video just before Christmas wishing everyone a Merry Christmas bet he didnt think about the poor 140 people who will be out of a job in February while hes getting his big bonus!!

    Pros

Nice offices, free coffee. Some people are hardworking and friendly.

    Cons

All SW workers going to India. Announced 12 weeks before financial year end so that the new budgets will show a lower cost base. That's over 180 people being made redundant just before Xmas, love to see the spin HR can put on that.

I have been working at Advanced for more than 10 years

    Pros

Great venue, knowledgeable staff amongst the more established teams. Good for the young graduate starting out on their career

    Cons

Across the business staff are disgruntled and wary. Advised to applaud acquisitions yet maintain silence when advised of more cost cutting measures. Whole teams are being made redundant under the guise of "restructuring" and "centralising" services without a thought behind the loss of knowledge and trust that customers have. Quite an uncomfortable atmosphere for any new starters entering this environment of uncertainty
