Pros

You get to have an opportunity to work hands on with kids. You must love kids. Co-workers are great and most directors seem to care.

Cons

Very high turnover. Lots of pressure on staff with little reward. You can pour your heart into your work and most directors do their best but upper management is absent in recognizing their employees but are quick to cut hours and demand more.

Pros

Good experience with kids, especially if it's the kind of career field you plan on pursuing.

Cons

Turnover rate is so high. This is my second school year working at the same school. Started off with about 10 other counselors the first year. Since then, everyone quit (including the site director) except for one or two others. Pay rate is rather low. $8.50 an hour on school days only. If we are the ones that have to go through dealing with the kids everyday, then we deserve a little more pay at least, since we get nothing else from the company. It's one of the major reasons why everyone always wants to quit after a few months. Also realized how much fun it ISN'T when you have to go to work everyday to basically yell the whole time you're there. Can be a stressful job at times. And finally, the overall workplace environment. I see many things when i come in to work everyday that I know go against policy. It's as if none of the workers want to be there at all, and that can sometimes rub onto me. I always wonder why i still work for this company
