    Positive Outlook

I have been working at Akzo Nobel Worldwide full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

An enjoyable company to work for, opportunities to move internally and work on overseas assignments. Great values and support of community causes across the globe. A proactive approach to flexible working for many roles and a genuine willingness to support its people . I genuinely enjoy working for Akzonobel.

    Cons

Too high an overlap of pay within a graded system meaning potentially huge differences in pay for people undertaking the same work with the same expectations.

    Advice to Management

Scrap reference points in pay grades as they are inconsistent applied and causes employee dissatisfaction

I have been working at Akzo Nobel Worldwide full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Work life balance Employee benefits are generally good Colleagues are fantastic Take health and safety very seriously (one of the company values) Invest heavily in charity/charitable events Own a lot of well known brands and products are high quality Some good product innovation in recent years despite stagnant market conditions

    Cons

Local decisions contradict corporate strategy which puts departments at heads with one another Too much bureaucracy Too much control desired by Amsterdam without understanding local operations Current 15 by 20 strategy is short-sighted as we appear to be embarking on a penny-wise, pound foolish culture e.g. getting rid of experienced heads, bringing in less experienced (cheaper) heads and then allowing poor... decisions (costly) to be made Bonus is non-existent for the past few years - local support function bonuses are tied to global performance which is totally stupid as sales and marketing counterparts are not HR may as well be a robotic chat bot as they are nigh on useless on most matters A lot of reactionary thinking and not enough pro-activeness - 15 by 20 is a perfect example of this as it only came about after the PPG bid.

    Advice to Management

Strategy needs to be followed all the way through from top to bottom Set realistic targets that can be achieved with the systems, structure, business environment, people in place etc. Reward good behaviour but actually have the balls to punish poor behaviour/decisions. All too often bad decisions go unpunished and left to repeat again. Invest in training employees to have the skills required to do their jobs
