I have been working at Alberta Health Services

    Pros

It's a paycheque and that is about it

    Cons

Very cliquey. No training. No motivation to work hard if the next three years there is no sight of any time of wage increase. Management is unsupportive.

    Advice to Management

Take a look at who you put into management positions. Just because they have letters behind their name, does not make them management material. It's called people skills.

I worked at Alberta Health Services full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Salaries are respectable, benefits are pretty good. Large organization allows for many position opportunities and personal growth for them.

    Cons

Staff is unable to maintain work life balance as the workloads are extremely heavy. Staff gets frustrated and result is they leave and others must pick up their work.

    Advice to Management

Seek workload balance at the lower levels. Look below manager level where people are paid the least and expected to work at unrealistic paces.

I worked at Alberta Health Services

    Pros

-Not in the downtown core -Sr Financial Analyst role under the union agreement

    Cons

-Bully type management -All proficient mgmt left a year after AHS formed, only poor mgr's left -Takes over 2 years to get a parking spot in the meantime you are bussed from a lot and still have to pay for that. -No chance for promotion -No accountability

    Advice to Management

You need a 360 degree employee assessment that includes assessing your own manager.
