    Pros

    Access to training material
    Friendly colleagues

    Cons

    Pay increases have been stopped.
People are laid off at an unusually high rate for a company of this size. Managers eliminate issues rather than address them.
The work is unrewarding. If you like brainless tasks that take no effort this may be your dream workplace.
Pay is not anywhere near competitive in the market.
Things run much smoother without management. I feel they only cause disruption to ensure that they look valuable. It would be interesting to judge them by performance metrics the same as analysts.

    Advice to Management

If you want staff to go above and beyond for you, go above and beyond for them. Give them competitive salaries and something to aim for in terms of career opportunities.

    Pros

A few smart people, but you have to wade through a very poor management culture to find them. Most have already left.

    Cons

The Belfast office was on the brink of closure, its has failed several times and required intervention of Snr management. There is no intellectual challenge and an immature HR dept that has overseen an attrition rate even McDonalds would be ashamed to have. For all the claims to be 'data driven' the most talented simply left for something more professional after the company was compromised by opportunists who almost sank it; even with all the warning signs HR, Snr management seemed incapable of seeing through the dementia inducing military laded cyber spiel for far too long. Former VP of Security soon jumped ship, with such a high rate of turnover the Belfast Research and Intelligence operation is unfortunately known for its woeful management. What benefit Belfast has to Alert Logic and its clients is open for debate, not even detecting legacy WP TimThumb exposed on the corp. site should say enough really.

    Advice to Management

Holding on the back of the Titanic of the IT Security even after its hit the iceberg is never a good idea, unfortunately Alert Logic Belfast is now by-word for ineptitude.

    Pros

Right now, I can't think of any.

    Cons

Senior Management need a wake up call. Customer support is falling apart, losing people from left, right and center. There is no consideration for employees that are highly skilled, they are just obsessed with cutting corners and making the organisation profitable, losing focus of the actual goal of supporting customers. There is a clear dislike for UK colleagues and that is felt by all.

    Advice to Management

Wake up and realise that you have some amazing skills to utilize. You should care when someone is looking for employment elsewhere.

I have been working at Alert Logic full-time

    Pros

Team is pretty nice, a bunch of helpful and skilled people. I'm working on one of the core services and some microservices and I must say the system is pretty good despite the impression it makes when you first see it. Environment is pretty friendly and there are lots of interesting company events throughout the year.

    Cons

Company grew too fast in the last few years and management structure has been constructed out of former developers who don't have as much management skill as they should. Some services suffer from bad architecture design and team spends some unnecessary time maintaining them, though it is slowly getting fixed.

I worked at Alert Logic full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Work whenever and wherever you choose. But just be in hipchat 24x7 and you be fine. Well funded. Ambitious and intentions are good

    Cons

Architects designing around company politics rather than technical solutions. If you like sitting in a room that is on fire and can't fathom why nobody else around you is worried about or even care about the raging flames around you, then "this is fine"

    Advice to Management

If you are an eng/sre/devops person here you will be on pager duty and it will be going off all the time. Sleep in the day when people are in the office and just do your hours at night, only way you can get a work/life balance.

Middle management is largely made up of good technical people who are not very good managers. Put them back on the tech and get some people people to manage.

I worked at Alert Logic full-time

    Pros

Let's be honest, if you have reached a certain standard of competence in your IT career, the work at Alert Logic is not going to be that demanding for you.
You won't have to 'bring work home' with you.
You won't have to work weekends or (mostly) in the evenings.

    Cons

Complete lack of dynamism or buy-in either from staff or management.
Weird kind of 'stasis' in the office - very 'flat' atmosphere that is noticeable as soon as you walk in the door - very little interaction between team members or teams.
Social events feel 'forced' and are therefore poorly attended.
In short, it feels like a stop-gap in one's career and many people are happy to treat it as such.

I have been working at Alert Logic full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

A company that is growing fast in the Security and Cloud sector. I work with a group of really great people; we have fun and grow the business. I have not worked with a tighter and more focused group of people in a long long while. If you are good, the career opportunities here are unmatched.

    Cons

It is a small company growing up and there are growing pains. Most areas of the business have changed dramatically in the last 6-12 months, there are a few other areas that still need improving and management is fixing them

    Advice to Management

Keep going, keep improving the business. Security and the Cloud is one of the best areas to be at the moment, we need to keep our foot on the gas pedal
