I have been working at Allen & Overy part-time for less than a year

    Pros

The people & culture from my experience so far (4 weeks in!) is absolutely amazing - everyone from my direct team, the trainers, other employees I have met so far have been so welcoming and friendly and helpful. Their approach to flexible working is a breathe of fresh air

    Cons

nothing so far to comment on as 4 weeks in and my experiences so far have been positive!

    Disapproves of CEO

I have been working at Allen & Overy full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Good benefits , gym, paid overtime and friendly and approachable work colleagues.

    Cons

Pay is not in line with the competitive firms. They discriminate paying between departments. Common knowledge amongst the PAs. Flexibility is also an issue.

    Advice to Management

They need to be fair across the board. Listen to the PAs. Show integrity, be approachable and have an open door policy.

    Disapproves of CEO

I have been working at Allen & Overy full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

    The people employed are great.

    Cons

Senior Managers and Heads in SSC are poor role models and disappointing to work with. Little care is given for their employees.

    Advice to Management

Review those in Management positions and provide training on how to manage/lead people. HR team is biased and lack of concern for employee welfare. Externally Allen & Overy has a great profile but this is not replicated in Belfast.

I have been working at Allen & Overy full-time for less than a year

    Pros

great office, great canteen, great coffee, great gym, supper friendly people, great resources, high quality work, best people to learn from

    Cons

long hours sometimes which you would expect, sometimes due to the structure of the office you can be quite isolated from other members of the team. Otherwise nothing bad to say. Oh and they don't have smashed avocado as an option for breakfast- boooo.

    Doesn't Recommend
    Negative Outlook

I worked at Allen & Overy full-time for less than a year

    Pros

in-house gym, in-house doctor, in-house dentist, good restaurant

    Cons

Full of cliques and poorly placed senior secretaries that rule with force; grown women treated like children; lonely; unfriendly; feel that the only reason they have so much in-house gym etc. is because they never want you to leave the premises.

    Advice to Management

Length of service at A&O should not deem you more senior as a secretary. The right training being given to completely the wrong people. Bullying is rife.

I have been working at Allen & Overy full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Great culture that enables employees to get involved in an number of activities outside of their work. Excellent benefits and facilities such as Dr, Dentist and on-site Gym and Beautician. Great colleagues

    Cons

Major squeeze on support staff headcount that is impacting on workloads and moral. Can be very hieratical with Partners overruling management decisions despite the firm wide approach to policies and practices.
