Company is struggling

Pros

What we do for our clients is fun and rewarding.

Cons

Since our old CEO left a year ago everything has changed for the worse. We haven't got a new customer in a year, the culture and morale went bad, most employees left, and we can't get investor funds anymore. We just had layoffs and downsized the office. Our strategy has changed and it doesn't make sense. It's not working. The company was doing so incredibly well before. The culture has become political, the transparency went away, and nobody can trust anybody here. None of us are comfortable speaking up about the real issues because management is being dishonest and has some kind of an agenda.

Pros

Startup and growing company.

Cons

Very clannish and uninviting culture. You have to a member of the old boy fraternity network. All of the leader are. Very childish atmosphere. Very low pay with poor benefit options. They don't want to listen to anyone not in their network.

Ally Commerce Response
9y
Ally Commerce values honest feedback. We respect the forum Glassdoor provides for employee reviews and we have become a better company from the constructive feedback we received. However, we feel we must respond to the claims in this particular review. This review appeared right after an employee left who was extremely angry (genuinely) that some people have Nerf guns in the office. At Ally Commerce people have fun in many ways. Some people do the Nerf thing and some don't. Regardless, it brings a good laugh occasionally, and we've made sure that everyone is 100% comfortable and respected at all times. There has never been an incident reported or any negative feedback from this. Nerf guns are a rather common thing at startups especially. However, we completely respect that this may not have been the right culture for her. As for the comment about the culture at Ally being clannish or uninviting, this is simply something we've never heard before. We regularly gather feedback from all employees about our company, and culture pops up in every round from every team, as one of their favorite things about Ally. This is reflected in all our other Glassdoor reviews. However, we respect that this employee was genuinely unhappy. Some may notice an inconsistency in the review, which we can clarify. This employee claimed in her review that she was a Customer Service Rep who had been with the company >1 year, and was a current employee at Ally. As a small fast-growing company, we know exactly who that is, and it is a short list. None of them wrote this review; they are all very happy at Ally. The employee who wrote this review was a short-tenured employee who was no longer with the company at the time of her review and it's unfortunate that she claimed otherwise. We are far from perfect as an employer. But we strive for excellence and we aggressively evaluate, re-evaluate, and take action so that we can be the best employer for our people. Our people are the #1 reason for our success, and they will continue to be.

Pros

- Open and very transparent communication at all levels about what's going on in the business - Hard working but laid back culture. No one here is stuffy or uptight - Very smart people - Casual dress code (jeans, t-shirts, etc.) - Very wide selection of benefit plans; there's a plan choice and employee cost that works for everyone - Very attractive 401k plan - If you want to move the needle and have a bias towards getting things done, this is a great place - If you want to b part of building a business, this is a great place - Not a lot of red tape; decision making is straightforward and based on the business need - Lots of opportunities to grow your career with the business if you put in the effort

Cons

- It's a start up. It's entrepreneurial. Processes are not fully developed and communications between teams is not always a well oiled machine. That's fine for some people but would not be a good scenario for people who need the structure that larger organizations have. - You have to be a self starter to be successful here. - There's not a lot of amenities near the office (lunch places, ability to run errands midday, etc.). The business needs to be located in industrial space so it is what it is but that's not appealing to everyone.
