I worked at American Eagle Outfitters part-time

    Pros

    great discounts for staff!
fun competitions that help you earn vouchers etc.
encouraging, sometimes praised when doing well
some managers very approachable and friendly making for good relationships.
paid for every minute you work not just from the start to end of your shift time, some companies dont pay you for the minutes that overrun.
good fun music playlists and good relationships with coworkers, fun environment

    Cons

you can often book days off weeks in advance and still get scheduled for it then have to chase up managers to get your shift switched. this is extra bad when the rota only comes out a couple of days before the start of the week.
some managers come across quite petty and rude and make you feel small. i have seen other coworkers treated badly
forced to approach customers all the time and told off for not doing it when you can clearly see the customer wants to be left to look alone.

    Advice to Management

sort out the scheduling as it should be your job when making the rota to take into account booked days off etc. and release it earlier.

the american customer service style of approaching everybody may work for some but a lot of english customers are different and its their worst nightmare to keep being approached so allow staff to make judgements based on customers reactions as to whether to keep approaching them

    Pros

Good sales training given to staff and good communication is kept on the shop floor.

    Cons

The heavily Americanized sales approach enforced by management didn't resonate well with Londoners. Also the shop was mismanaged, mass firing of staff lead to poor moral and the shop was poorly stocked.

I worked at American Eagle Outfitters (Less than a year)

    Pros

Received many free items from various competitions, became a Jean Expert within 6 months of starting there, received amazing discounts as a Jeans Expert include 80% off 3 items, 60% off 12 items, and 40% off the rest every floorset

    Cons

Very strict company, did not receive too many hours even though I was easily one of the hardest workers. Maybe 8-15 hours a week.

I worked at American Eagle Outfitters part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

    40% off everything staff discount
    Great products
Uniform allowance (you're supposed to wear AE clothes, but can be as casual as you want)
Great music in store even around Christmas so you don't feel like hanging yourself after two hours
    Good pay

    Cons

The management is full of bullies
    Unrealistic targets
Being forced to harass customers every second by offering to help them (by the time they get to the till, they have been jumped by 5 Sales Assistants and 3 "Greeters" because we're required to go up to everybody and repeat the same set of questions)
The radios are never charged properly so it makes it impossible to use them efficiently
Always being bugged about doing more hours even though you have an contract detailing your availability (plus most of your employees are students with a lot of academic commitments)

    Advice to Management

Listen to your staff, they know the customers a lot better than you
We get that you're an American company but people in the UK are different, so a lot of things don't work on them (constant interaction with the customer is every British person's nightmare)

    Pros

Positive work environment, opportunities for advancement, encouraging management

    Cons

Scheduling is done on a week to week basis and requires you to go in to the store each week to pick it up

    Advice to Management

Create an online schedule viewing system

    Pros

Good sales team, location in westfield, flexible hours

    Cons

Management had no idea what they were doing, expected to display American vibe to Bristish culture which doesn't work, most people employed because they knew someone in the company

    Advice to Management

Understand your audience to structure your strategy. America and Britain are two different audiences who require different kinds of attention.

I have been working at American Eagle Outfitters part-time

    Pros

The discount is really good and the people there are genuinely very cool friendly people that you can consider friends outside of work. Creates a nice atmosphere.

    Cons

The management is very meh. The managers are nice people but scheduling is a nightmare. Sometimes you can request a day off weeks in advance and still get scheduled for that same day. The rotas for the following week can be released to as late as around 48 hours beforehand which is very short notice!

    Advice to Management

Release the rotas at least a few days earlier. Management also seem to lack empathy when you are actually ill or have a family emergency which can come across as quite rude.

    Pros

It paid really really good money compared to any other retail shop in the United Kingdom.

    Cons

The only downside was the management team was dreadful. I felt like they was so unprofessional and they wasn't trained enough to be a manager. Sometimes I felt like they was taking everything as a joke. A few of the managers were out right rude.

    Advice to Management

Take time to listen to each employees as an individual and do not make anyone feel like an idiot.
