I have been working at American Family Insurance full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Pay is decent, but you'll dread your work days....

    Cons

Redundant/pointless meetings during work hours, constant changes, getting different answers from different managers, poor management, coworkers from different departments will throw you under the bus for small things, not a "family" culture, staying late and not being compensated. I'd definitely look elsewhere.

I worked at American Family Insurance full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Good starting pay/benefits/PTO. Flex scheduling. Promotion to salaried pay within 9 months of start date.

    Cons

Virtually no opportunities to advance in the company. Yearly pay raises are minuscule. Workloads can be extremely overwhelming. There are metrics to many aspects of the job that are out of the adjusters control, yet they are still held to an unfair standard. The auditing of claims is absolutely ridiculous and do not reflect an adjusters true work performance, yet our yearly raise depends on these audits. The nature of the job requires a lot of difficult conversations with customers, it is not uncommon to get angry emails and have customers be extremely difficult to deal with.

I worked at American Family Insurance full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Flex schedule Decent benefits if full time

    Cons

Don't be fooled, this company treats this role as a call center role opposed to adjuster. You will be given a massive inventory of claims but expected to take 100% of incoming calls, which come as frequently as every couple minutes or less. Your focus will be answering phones, not adjusting and investigating, but the KPI's will still be there. No support from management either.

Thank you for taking a moment to provide us with your feedback. It appears that we have missed the mark in regards to your employee experience. The seasonal nature of claims work creates difficulty in predicting volumes which can directly impact work loads from time to time. At American Family, we take our employee experience and engagement very seriously and we're disheartened when we hear of an experience like yours. While your feedback was extensive, we'd like to direct you to our Ethics Line for an opportunity to confidentially share your concerns. 1-877-77AMFAM (1-877-772-6326).

I worked at American Family Insurance full-time for less than a year

    Pros

Excellent benefits from the first day, including paid bereavement leave; excellent health insurance and fairly generous paid time off. Company paid pension.

    Cons

Mediocre management and far too many meetings that are not productive. Too many employees are hired based on family connections in Wisconsin instead of merit.

I have been working at American Family Insurance full-time

    Pros

Pretty good health benefits... That is about it...

    Cons

It was like living a Dilbert comic....way too many meetings and pre-committees. Management is afraid to make decision without a entire group input...A total waste of productively and absolutely little to no training. Mandatory huddles 3 days a week during the busiest time during the workday..I could not believe how much time I spent away from my desk. I would tell inexperience people to avoid this place as it is setup for failure...i would tell experience people to stay away as harder claims will fall to you as inexperience people cannot handle the workload..
