I have been working at American Museum of Natural History full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Many health insurance options which are excellent, good time off, great perks, and a really cool place to go to work to every day.

    Cons

    Low salary, not good advancement.

    Advice to Management

I have been working at American Museum of Natural History part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Flexible hours, works around your school schedule. Supervisors and directors are kind people. Co-workers are also very kind. Museum only gets busy during certain periods throughout the year. Most of the time you're just sitting there doing nothing. But when it is busy, like weekends and holidays it can be nonstop ticketing. There is opportunity for advancement but they are rare.

    Cons

Low pay, no benefits for part-time staff including supervisors. You do accumulate sick pay but thats about it. Can get boring and there isn't much learning involved other than learning the membership benefits and the different levels. Members can be rude and feel entitled. Working weekends was not something I enjoyed at all.

    Advice to Management

    Pay us more.

I have been working at American Museum of Natural History part-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Great place to begin your career: as one of the most prestigious academic institutions in the world you are exposed to many academics who are willing to help hone and train your critical thinking skills while offering advice and guidance. While there, I had the opportunity to be a part of many research projects that exposed me to the numerous dimensions of research. Due to my contributions I have been made coauthored on a couple of the Curator's work.

    Cons

Certain departments can be extremely disorganized. Egos are huge and plentiful and sometimes disputes between Curators and junior staff occur. If you are a grad student, they will take advantage of you and have you do tasks that you are not qualified for and are not being adequately compensated for.
