    Pros

A good beautiful campus that you will be never able to see as you will not get time from the job.

    Cons

I read the reviews here and I thought it would not be the same but believe me it was the worst. The management of AUD is worst and incompetent in hiring good people. They do not care about your qualifications or your experience or research work as they will not give you time to do it.ُ The management people are arrogant and they treat you like in lowest possible way. If you are from a nationality, they don't like then they will treat you like garbage.
You will get a offer letter but it has so many loop holes that you can't imagine. They will try to keep thing hidden from you to change and use them later on. The salary is the lowest for assistant professor position just about 44000 usd a year for teaching 8 courses a year with average class of 30 students. If you want to earn more then you will have to leave your holidays in summer and then they will give you more amount. The search committee is the useless ever as they just need the person who agrees on their terms and conditions with lowest salary. They have written to complete 8 hours a day but when you will get time table your one class will be at 8.30am and other in the evening at 7pm. Means you will stay more than 13 to 14 hours on campus. Your family life is dead. You will not be able to do research and if you will not do it they will not increase your pay annually. You will be dragged into every useless meeting at the campus as management don't want to do anything. They just portray aud is best but it is the worst in UAE in terms of salary, work load and life. I strongly discourage to join aud. you will think that it will not happen to you but it will happen to you surely.

    Advice to Management

    Give competitive salaries
    Remove arrogant people from management
Reduce work load for faculty max should be 6 courses a year including summers.

    Pros

nice location, good building, diverse students

    Cons

faculties are treated badly. It is an commercial university by all means. The administration staff mostly from lebanon from the same sect of the owner. no body can trust anyone since wrong information travel to the owner who is located in Lebanon. With high turnover among faculties, you don't have a job security at all. Students have the upper hand. If they complain, then the provost with the deans start to panic. so it is better to give students high marks to avoid blame from the deans. It is private university cares about profit only, academia is the least concern if any

    Advice to Management

Try to adopt diversity and avoid hiring from the same nationality of the owner. Also, try to keep faculty and respect academia

    Pros

AUD isn’t a bad place to work if you want an easy job with little reward (intrinsic and extrinsic). This is not the place to go to stay competitive in the international job market or to grow as an academic. This is the place to go to clock in and clock out until you can get something better (locally or internationally) or if you just want to coast through in an understimulating environment.

    Ask yourself the following questions:

    1. Is your main objective to move to the UAE? If so, then go for this job if you can’t get anything else and move as soon as you can.

    2. Is your main objective to find any job, given the shortage in your home country? If so, then go for this job but keep your eyes open locally and internationally.

    3. Is your main objective to find a job that has few expectations and few rewards? If so, then this is the perfect job for you. Just remember that the expectations are few because the standards are low. The rewards are minimal because of the revolving door.

    Cons

Have you recently received an expression of interest or job offer from the American University in Dubai? If yes, then you’re probably shocked by how low it is and trying to investigate whether the benefits make up for the pay. I was in your shoes a few years ago. I did a LOT of research. Everything I read was negative. I thought to myself, “Yes, it seems negative… but that’s THEM. It will be different with ME.” And it was… at first. Life was easy. The students loved me, I had nice colleagues, and the senior administration were supportive of me.

It didn’t take long for things to become more apparent. On the surface, AUD looks great. If you look a little deeper, you’ll realize that AUD is not interested in hiring the best or being the best. They are simply interested in telling people that they are the best and hoping that others will believe it. This mission is hard to accomplish with open enrolment and extremely high faculty turnover (coupled with even higher faculty dissatisfaction). AUD would be much better off if they didn’t penny pinch, but they realize that there’s an oversupply of Ph.D.s from Western countries. So, the offers keep getting lower. People keep leaving after a couple of years (often less). The cycle continues.

Resist the temptation to say, “It won’t be ME.” Everyone says that; everyone is wrong.

    To sum it up:

AUD is the place for you if:
    1. You are interested in moving to the UAE and none of the other universities are hiring.
    2. This is the only job you can get.
    3. You are looking for a job with very low expectations and even lower personal satisfaction.

    Pros

    good campus...good location....near to beach

    Cons

faculties who leave AUD will never come back and often leave upset, faculties are under so much pressure, very high teaching load (10 courses per year), high expectation, teaching and accreditation are the first priority...they dont care about research...students cheat often and faculties are blamed for it...there is no faculty association...salary lowest in the region...It's a business.

    Advice to Management

reduce the load and care about your faculties...in a long run this system will not survive

    Pros

Campus in nice part of town, well groomed and polite students. Faculty and staff are friendly enough.

    Cons

    10 classes per year?????

Salary only OK. The figure of 105 K comes from 60 K cash salary + housing + utilities + tax benefit + annual trip home.

    Advice to Management

    Reduce teaching load. Increase pay.
