I have been working at Anglo American full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Good wage, opportunities to move departments and to move up. A lot is expected of you and generally high work hrs in its underground mines. Open cut is more relaxed

    Cons

Graduates are usually thrown into straight engineering or coordinator roles. Not much time to actually do the graduate program. This puts on a lot more stress however you learn a lot quicker

I have been working at Anglo American full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

    - Opportunity to work on sizeable, impactful projects - Opportunity to work alongside seasoned, experienced professionals

    Cons

    - Organisational processes aren't optimal or consistently applied, which can create frustration - Due to the above, performance management suffers i.e. people end up being evaluated on ambiguous factors other than performance

    Advice to Management

Fix your processes so that there are no opportunities for personal biases to creep into performance management

    Doesn't Recommend

I have been working at Anglo American full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

-Some of the remnants of the people and strategies that lead to great success still remain.

    Cons

-Extremely poor performance management system. -Excessive and pervasive micro-management. -Limited accommodation for employees with little or no attempts to create sustainable improvement. -Local towns are mismanaged and corrupt, regular interruptions to basic services occur, with little of no intervention from the company. Towns occur in a permanent and worsening state of squalor. -Advancement and development... exists only if you fit the required EE profile, all others are remorselessly cast away. -Soulless corporate culture. -Poor overall management of operations.

    Advice to Management

You disseminate beautiful values and principles on the one hand, yet in practice these values exist only in words and on paper, in practice there is not even a hint. The rot always begins on the inside, by the time it shows, it is often too late.
