I have been working at Arm full-time for more than a year

    Pros

    * The pay is very good. Outside of Cambridge in most places you will earn a very good wage for your living costs. * The offices are nice. Standing desks, no hot-desks. Quiet environment and you are free to go to the one of many meeting rooms if you need to. It's a technology company so technical people are taken seriously.

    Cons

    * Poor work-life balance. Arm Manchester mainly recruits very smart young people and makes them work super hard. Most people do additional work into the evenings, either on the record or not. Most people will claim not to even though they do! This is because the level of workload that is assigned to each employee - you are not directly told to work overtime but if you don't, you will get bad performance reviews etc. * Confrontational and competitive environment. Not really a collaborative environment unless you were hired in via a referral and already have allies there. * Lack of focus on testing and quality. There is no real resourcing for testing/test quality. It is a developer-led organisation and testing is seen as an afterthought or not important in general.

    Advice to Management

    * Make interviews more rigorous and reduce the number of 'buddy hires' we have where people are hired through knowing someone in the organisation. This leads to a lack of diversity and tribalism. * Encourage the introverted engineers to collaborate more and not see everyone as direct competition. Build a team environment. * Make sure there is a dedicated test management hierachy, with quality being valued. This will result in better software. There are pockets of huge resistance to modern software engineering practices such as Agile and these need to be eliminated one way or another.

I have been working at Arm for more than a year

    Pros

Interesting projects, nice people, pleasant working environment. Employees are keen to improve their skill set and knowledge. As an employer, Arm are continually looking to support their employees both professionally and personally with initiatives that promote both. Work/Life balance is superb. You would NEVER find anything like this in the City. Arm genuinely appreciate the importance of family. The City only pay it lip service. Arm has a great presence within the community and support many local charities and events.

    Cons

Cambridge is not a cheap place to live. Perhaps salaries should be on a par with London.

I have been working at Arm full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

    - working in cutting edge technology - working on something that ships in MOST mobile devices in the world - great work life balance - a cluster of really passionate and experienced people

    Cons

    - base salary could be improved (the bonuses make it SO MUCH better) - location: Cambridge (this can be a pro or a con. It's a beautiful town but having an office in London might add so many possibilities for the company, human resource wise) - sometimes projects might get a bit stalled (boring), that totally depends on where and with whom you work.

    Advice to Management

    - focus on compensation, retention and challenging projects

I have been working at Arm full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Enough freedom to work on areas you like. Has relatively good salaries (in UK). Arm has great culture and good work life balance. Lots of initiates to make work place better.

    Cons

Sometimes you feel the politics is taking over.

    Advice to Management

Salaries in UK needs to increased to retain talent pool, specially when competition has finally come in Cambridge/London and is offering better pay.

I have been working at Arm full-time for more than a year

    Pros

+ Friendly and fun working environment + Freedom of implementing one's own ideas + Great experience for Graduates + Good work-life balance

    Cons

    - Work sometimes being too laid-back

    Advice to Management

With Arm expanding at ever increasing pace, it is very important to keep the people engaged with Arm for longer terms. Due to recent political movements, the salaries have become less than the competitive standards of industry. The company should address this at some point.

    I worked at Arm full-time

    Pros

    - Very good pay and benefits package - Good work/life balance in some areas - Performance management process is good - empowered to do your best work - If you like to hit the ground running, then this is the place for you. - Challenging and varied work - Very intelligent workforce - inspiring to see what actually happens “behind the scenes” - Many people who work there genuinely care about their work, but normal office politics and growing pains of a large corporate company get in the way

    Cons

    - Toxic atmosphere - office politics are rife - No clear strategic direction or top down communication - Large areas of the business are segmented and do not collaborate or communicate at a basic level - huge “us and them” mentality - Office space is a lot to be desired for such a cash rich company - Onboarding process is very poor and varies greatly between teams and departments to - you’re shown your desk and that’s it really - Basic and highly manual operational processes in areas like Finance, HR, Legal and Procurement not in place so makes getting anything approved a nightmare - There are A LOT of egos at middle management and senior level - Bullying is prevalent in many areas - senior leadership seems to tolerate it - Deadlines on high profile projects very unrealistic and aggressive, normally imposed by senior management a lot of the time who have no clue what’s actually going on - IT support is very poor. Help desk and technical support is outsourced so customer service is very patchy. - The fact that Arm have employed 2,000+ people in the space of two years has resulted in MAJOR growing pains. The company hasn’t been able to keep up with this growth and it shows in basic operational processes and support which have not been updated to cope with this sudden growth. Many teams that provide operational support are overworked and stressed tying to keep up and not drown in the workload.

    Advice to Management

Improve and invest more in operational processes in areas like HR, Finance, Procurement, IT and Legal and get the basics right before employing hundreds more people and expecting them to do their job with a higher workload.

I worked at Arm for less than a year

    Pros

Excellent work-life balance Good financial compensation Lots of autonomy Interesting projects

    Cons

Very poor leadership Lack of accountability In-house processes function very poorly (HR, legal, procurement) Decision making seems to come from high up with little or no understanding/consideration of impact lower down Mixed messages from management - one day you have to do X, then next it's Y Moving between Cambridge offices can be a pain

    Advice to Management

Most of you need to resign for the good of the company. The fact you're still making good profits with the current leadership and the sometimes toxic culture is a credit to the staff on the frontline. With strong leadership it could be an incredible place to work!
