I worked at AspenTech full-time for less than a year

    Pros

Exposure to good customer base in process manufacturing industry. Engineering solutions are leader in industry due to long history

    Cons

No trust of employees. The worse internal business processes I've ever seen or hear about. Terrible treatment of personnel. They are losing talent incredibly fast and don't seem to care. Treat customers terribly

    Advice to Management

Leave and let better management in to try and repair problems before it is too late

    Disapproves of CEO

    I worked at AspenTech

    Pros

Some good, very smart people. I'm surprised as many have lasted as long as they have given how they are treated

    Cons

No respect or trust of the employees No respect for personal time Treats customers badly Many products not as good as many think -- losing ground competitively outside of engineering software space

    Advice to Management

Trust your people Stop trying to engineer business processes that eliminate creativity and flexibility Focus on strategic issues and not tactical Take responsibility for your own objectives and stop focusing only on blaming others

    I worked at AspenTech

    Pros

    1. Incredibly talented product developers, consultants and sales people. 2. Strong brand-recognition in industry and superb technology. 3. Middle-management is actually extremely effective, if allowed to do their job...i.e. manage.

    Cons

    1. Dysfunctional leadership at the top. 2. An organization of highly driven professionals is run like a widget producing factory.

    Advice to Management

Allow for (within some broad and well set guidelines) creativity to flourish and for people to enjoy their jobs and you might do a lot for share-holder value (through improved results and reduced turnover). You have a very gifted and driven organization of professionals who're very passionate about their work. The spreadsheet-driven metrics crap and the "beatings will continue until morale improves" attitude needs to change!
