I have been working at AspenTech full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Great people, great location and good onsite amenities. Some really great people who work in the office and they really make the job worth it. Reasonably wages but good package offered.

    Cons

Management has no idea. Too many technical managers with no actual technical experience. Upper management doesn't listen to staff and this is noted in every quarterly call. Pay raises are minimal (less than a living wage) Promotions are non-existent with them employing new people rather than training existing employees. Even then - existing employees are expected to train seniors new in the door (without the appropriate experience) The company promtes a no working from home attitude which is crazy in this day and age however management work from home reguarly.

    Advice to Management

Invest your time and money in existing staff - not just turf them out. Learn to teach your technical managers actual technical skills.. it's embarrassing for seniors to not know how basic computing works.

I worked at AspenTech full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Generous PTO policy. Nice Houston office.

    Cons

Sub-par pay and benefits Zero opportunity for growth within the company “Raises” don’t even keep up with annual inflation Poor training of employees Heavy-handed micromanagement High turnover Management takes credit for your contributions, and when things go wrong, they throw you under the bus to cover their own rear ends. Extreme favoritism is shown in deciding raises and promotions. I was told blatant lies two consecutive review cycles in a row as to why my wage did not increase even by an iota for two years straight.

I have been working at AspenTech full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Aspentech has a great team of employees. There is no shortage of talented and hardworking individuals at this organization. I have definitely enjoyed working among a team of co-workers who are highly intelligent and have a can do attitude.

    Cons

Management has not been the best in the treatment of the employees unfortunately. There is a definite need for improvement in this vain. Also, there aren't many opportunities for advancement for those who desire.

    Advice to Management

Focus more on development of employees and provide opportunities for growth. Too many people have too much bad to say about the internal issues. Please pay attention and make a concerted effort to change the way employees and customers are treated.

    Pros

You gain experience on an excellent software tool. You get to know nice people in the office and you can have good friends in there.

    Cons

Too many Cons. The worst con of working there is the management. Starting from the very bottom to the top, the people who are managing the teams lack basic knowledge of everything.

    Advice to Management

Be gone. There is no solution to fix that kind of mess you are into. You need to refresh the management team right away.

I worked at AspenTech full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

The employees are outstanding, These folks are good at what they do and love what they do. Their only obstacle is management. They are bright, ethical, engaging, and have their priorities in place. They care about their work, their customers and each other. The only reason most stay.

    Cons

Management. Particularly in support and training. They employ management by fear and micromanagement techniques to a toxic level. Team members are overwork and underpaid, but most of all unappreciated and are simply a means to an end. There is no opportunity for advancement or change. Only the 1% of "what didn't go right" is emphasized, and never a mention of the 99% that did. The entire company suffers from poor management, mostly because they are pressured from above. This company provides an oppressive environment. Raises are minimal and recognition almost non existant. Coming in, it looks like a great opportunity, unfortunately, that is too short lived. If you are a college grad, they are looking for you , unfortunately, I am not convinced you will set up for success. If you have other opportunities, consider all your options.

    Advice to Management

Take the time to know who works for you, you are missing out on a great bunch of folks. Empower your team and they will shine brighter. Become part of your teams instead of the leash master behind the pack.

I worked at AspenTech full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Good products. If you can survive here, yes, you can definitely survive anywhere.

    Cons

Lots of experienced people have left. New trainees have a real hard time to cope up with the pace as there is anyone to train. Current employees are constantly looking for better opportunities. Ex-employees are better off in other companies. The environment is highly suppressing. Constantly finding faults between departments is very common. No team spirit in here.

    Advice to Management

You can not always save money. Cost cutting could be good but it has its limits. How can you spend $1500 on shoes, while your employees struggle to get a small hike in their allowance?? Come on office supplies are required for the job. Cutting down on pens and pencils is pointless.

    - Highly innovative - Great work flexibility - You have enough time to pursue personal business - Travel to exotic places if you desire

    Cons

    - Lack of growth opportunities - Lack of advancement opportuniyties - No recognition for good work done - Danger of stagnation

    Advice to Management

    - Respect for employees at the lower rung would go a long way to reducing high turnover. - Advancement opportunities need to be created, as well as a way to retain the best talents.
