I worked at Aspire full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

I've really enjoyed my time at Aspire, I worked alongside some incredible colleagues and worked with inspiring clients. Aspire do things quite differently from other recruitment agencies, both within the digital and media space, and also in general. Everyone lives and breathes the company's values, and there is a real sense of collaboration. They are also forward-thinking, are quick to realize the flaws in the ways recruitment is traditionally done, and are quick to change and adapt in order to best service their clients and candidates.
Excellent branding and marketing, and they make sure you have all the tools needed to reach potential clients and candidates.
Training is great, combination of on- and off-desk.
Perks are brilliant (flexi-time was a life saver, and I'm going to miss the monthly massages!)

    Cons

Don't really have any, just keep doing what you're doing!

    Advice to Management

Keep doing what you do, don't be afraid of change, and keep shining :)

I have been working at Aspire full-time

    Pros

Lovely office environment the minute I joined, everyone is very welcoming.
Management always there to offer support and help you make progression.
The 1-1 meetings offered are taken very seriously and help you to push yourself, you always feel like you are being listened to.

    Cons

Nothing bad to comment on so far.

I worked at Aspire full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    Regular career reviews

    Semi-flexible hours

Superb office space, location and facilities

    Cons

Attitude and general personal ability of management

    Internal communication

Endless Circle of attempts to change processes

Lack of buy-in from London staff and upper management

Fee splits often leading to internal competition over candidates

    Advice to Management

"The definition of insanity is performing the same task over and over expecting different results"

An immensely over-used cliche but disturbingly accurate in this account. A down-to-earth founder and a very business smart CEO cannot get this company working the way they want it to without the help of the core staff. A lack of any sort of accountability from 360 consultants and resourcing managers has allowed the tension between the two offices almost reach a point of no return, causing a visible crack in the company between the sales people and the new million pound venture in the midlands.

It is my understanding that issues have been repeatedly highlighted by both ends yet no concrete results have been noticed. At the conception of the 'Talent Hub', certain processes were established, but there is a clear reluctance to make any changes or even consider adapting the model for the benefit of the Birmingham employees. Everyone seems to be measured by the same yardstick regardless of industry, and KPIs are based around an environment of 'office targets' which feels like activity for the sake of activity.

I feel like unless serious changes are made in both the way internal conflict is handled and how Birmingham staff are directing their time, the Talent Hub will quickly become non-viable and the exceedingly high staff turnover will only increase.

I worked at Aspire (Less than a year)

    Pros

    - Excellent Birmingham office
    - Central location
    - Approachable, friendly board of directors
    - What seems to be a genuine desire to succeed

    Cons

    - Forever changing strategy, KPIs and expectations
    - A reliance on "London" to steer the Talent Hub and a lack of consistency in expectations across London teams
    - A real lack of buy-in or will to change from the London teams
    - Turnover, turnover, turnover...

    Advice to Management

Change the way London work to push them away from an over-reliance on their key accounts to a business development focused way of working in order to make the Talent Hub valuable.

You have a very successful business, but if growth is the intention you will only realise this when London move out of their comfort zone and let Talent Hub add revenue and not just fill jobs London would have filled on their own anyway...

Thanks for your comment, be good to understand what more communication to provide. Cliques are created by people, and difficult to manage as people gravitate towards people they share interests with

    Pros

Good office location, they try to keep a good company culture, flexible working hours. One of the best managers I have ever had and still consider to be a friend.

    Cons

Pretty bad vibe overall, some pretty nasty people to be honest - which is sad.

    Pros

Fantastic training and development, even during the interview process they really helped me improve as a recruiter. Not only that but the people genuinely want to help you do well, very collaborative culture and support structures in place.

    Cons

Commission structure is not the best

    Aspire Response

I have been working at Aspire full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Many awards - Investors in people, Sunday times top 100 etc.
I wonder how many £50 notes they had to stuff in peoples pocket to get those.
Terrible company to work for, very micro managed by rude and arrogant directors and employees.
Glad im leaving this company behind.

    Cons

Poor management and structure, typical recruitment agency treating people like nothing.
