I worked at AstraZeneca full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    Many avenues for advancement

    Cons

Too volatile of an industry. I achieved 54% market share, and was let go without warning or reason, due to territory restructuring. Also, training was ill structured for people who are new to pharmaceutical sales.

I have been working at AstraZeneca full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Good company, some real bad mangers in tough to fill geographies

    Cons

Lower salaries, bonus getting harder to make. Lots of fuzzy

    Advice to Management

Some micro management issues killing sales/reps...time consuming trackers tracking information already being captured and tracked by the database.
Many great leaders but some really poor ones in geographies that are tough to fill.

    Pros

Was lucky enough to have some great DSMs and leadership. Family friendly. Motivating culture

    Cons

Unrealistic quotas. contstant change, but who doesn't have that in pharma? The usual complaints, but overall, a good company to work for.

    Pros

Great products, excellent senior leadership, financially rewarding, and you can make what you want out of your career and impact on patients.

    Cons

Firedrills are common and not always the most deserving people get promoted.

    Advice to Management

Be as transparent as you can.

  11. "AZ seems to be drifting and management doesn't understand how to sale pharmaceuticals and depend on experience."

I worked at AstraZeneca full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Finally adequate IT support for the field. Fringe benefits such as health care insurance are superior, but the employees are having to make greater contributions for their coverage.

    Cons

AZ has made serious missteps in launching and pulling-thru their products. Middle and upper management seem to turn a deaf ear towards representatives and DMs that have good and sound advice to help the company and sell specific products. The influence network is still alive and well at AZ and that is unfortunate for employees that really care about the company and the patients that could benefit from its products.

    Advice to Management

Do away with the influence networks at AZ, they are not looking out for the interest of the company, but their own careers. Listen to the annual survey from employees and don't just pay it lip service so that you can check off that paragraph in your annual review.
