I worked at AstraZeneca (More than a year)

    Pros

    Flexible timetable for work
I was paid by the hour
Good facilities at Alderley Park (sadly AZ left the site)

    Cons

Moving up beyond a Senior Scientist role is very difficult, as there are a lot of Senior Scientists and there is competition from outside.

    Advice to Management

Listen to the workers and help them to develop their skills by offering more courses that could run in parallel with routine work.

    Pros

good renumeration package and training package, opportunity for career changes whilst staying within organisation, some very dedicated people , nice environment

    Cons

beaurocratic on occasions with senior management seeming distant, can get pigeon holed if not careful, a lot of recent changes which have left many people feeling dis enfranchised

    Advice to Management

connect with all staff not just those who present a positive outlook

    Pros

Very science oriented company, strong corporate culture, inspiring leadership.
A great improvement to 4-5 years ago

    Cons

Sometimes, too many changes at the same time. Requires a lot of stamina, flexibility to adapt

    Advice to Management

    Caring and planning

I worked at AstraZeneca full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

It was a nice company culture and friendly environment overall, but too many and too frequent restructuring, most of which without clear purpose in long term perspective.

    Cons

No carrier progression but rather increasing overload and deteriorating work-life balance. Becoming more dysfunctional within time.

    Advice to Management

Keep checking and reminding yourself whyare you there and what are your main motivation drivers. Try to be honest (at least with yourselves).

    Pros

Opportunity to step up and make a difference & Pace of change
    Open culture
Great working environment - new locations and fit out of old ones
    Commitment to improving technology
    Clear mission and focus

    Cons

Technology/systems challenges - huge and clumbersome, at times although known issues
Super-admin heavy - lots of systems to cut through
Can be political - although getting better

    Advice to Management

Continue with change and simplification programmes, but also challenge the non-adopters to move forward

    Pros

Interesting portfolio. Lots of work. Some good people and lots of energy from some. Some people still a little bit slow and want to debate every detail.

    Cons

Interesting portfolio. Lots of work. Lots of people leaving and shifting around of responsibilities and contracts etc. So you meet more people in 12 months than I have met in 5 years in my prior company. Bit chaotic.

    Advice to Management

Try to reduce the meetings. There is too much work to do to spend hours discussing/debating things of minor consequence.
