      Pros

Ambitious plan to return to growth appears to be working

      Cons

I originally joined CAT which then became MedImmune and then AZ. The changes that brought weren't for everyone, including me!

In you are not a scientist then its a disaster

      Pros

Pay and benefits are pretty good and the science is first class. New AZ site in Cambridge looks interesting but will we see MedImmune totally vanish when that site opens.

      Cons

AZ, AZ, AZ. AZ own MedImmune and have ripped the non science support areas from Finance to IT to shreds. So scientists spend an ridiculous amount of time doing non science activities because there is not enough support for MedImmune specific ways of working.

      Pros

Great place to learn lots and there is a genuine push for people to learn and understand the science. The culture in the UK side is pretty nice and relaxed and the leadership in the UK is good.

      Cons

difficult to get promoted. More emphasis paid to doing pet projects rather than day job. Confusion over the brand of Medimmune, Astra Zeneca (AZ) pay the bills, everyone has heard of AZ Medi US just need to get over it and move on with the brand.

IT being crippled by AZ reorg

      Pros

Local teams of people are great, hard working and understand what they need to do and how to get stuff done to support the scientists.

      Cons

IT re-org being led by AZ is going to end in tears for MedImmune. Poor communication, poor understanding of what people do on the ground, massive cost cutting and moving services to Indian centres and cloud was ok a couple of years ok but things have changed already and once again IT is playing catchup.

      Pros

Some of the people are brilliant.

      Cons

Silos - organisations (AZ and MedImmune), geography (California, Gaithersburg, Cambridge), Information systems (E drive, H drive, USB drive, Rodeo Drive...)

AZ is not the company Medimmune Was

      Pros

Great pay, benefits, bonus, LTI. You can learn a lot and work with very smart folks.

      Cons

No work/life balance with 60 hours/week expected or you will get a low job review rating. AZ has biases against the former Medimmune employees and has made an effort to push them out of the organization and was told that in 2019 60% of those such employees left company. Has become a big pharma company and very political. UK management calls all the shots over the USA staff.

Better as MedImmune but Not Terrible

9 Aug 2020 - Anonymous Employee in Gaithersburg, MD

      Pros

Competitive salary and benefits. Very knowledgeable scientists so you can improve or gain a plethora of knowledge if you use the resources provided.

      Cons

Many pains as the company that was formerly MedImmune aligns with AstraZeneca policies. The "great place to work" phrase that was earned by MedImmune is now long gone. While there are attempts to maintain a great workplace there is a long way to go until this may be an actuality under the new management and teams.

      Pros

Science-based research and great people to work with

      Cons

Since AstraZeneca took over and retired the Medimmune name the biotech culture has been lost. Feels like big pharma with a higher emphasis on throughput and corporate image
