I worked at Atkins full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

The team I worked in was good, people shared skills and knowledge- of the kind a what a young professional wants and hopes from such a company. But that is where it all ENDS! The only other questionably positive from my period there is a few lessons from what is also known as the university of life

    Cons

Disfunctional teams, eternal infighting, incompetent people leading teams-principal engineers/leads who have no clue about the subject matter yet become/proclaim themselves as experts and subsequently pass the buck onto people lower down in the hierarchy resulting in loss of valuable clients- be ashamed of yourselves for asking for and getting bonuses after all this- you would have been fired in any other functional organisation. Senseless focus on absurd indices like productivity that should be used within a context and not just as a number, no willingness for risk. The list can go on but I think this is enough

    Advice to Management

Value your people as humans and not just numbers, get rid of real overheads- not just by cost-cutting but by eliminating the big bunch of useless and incompetent people in the company who only talk yet take on the position of subject matter experts, else another carillion is not far away. Unfortunately glassdoor requires having to set 1 star as a minimum, else I would have definitely given 0 stars or even negative if possible.

I worked at Atkins full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    Variety of clients
    Good facilities
    International, diverse workforce

    Cons

A lot of travelling involved, won't be covered by client so done on your own time
Can be stressful during periods when there is not a lot of work as you'll be idle. It is crucial to be staffed so a lot of pressure to always be on contracts. This makes training and development hard.
Business will get you to do and specialise in what they need and once you do there is no backing out because those skills will be in high demand!

    Advice to Management

Pay more attention to people and their development
