I worked at Au Pair in America full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Great experience. Nice events organized to be amongst other au pairs.

    Cons

Supervisors are very limited in what they can tell the host families, even when they ask more than the contract (which 90% of them do).

I worked at Au Pair in America full-time

    Pros

Ability to travel mostly during the travel month

    Cons

    1. Agency advertises this programme as a cultural exchange programme whereas Au pair is just a cheap labor in USA-that is how the host families see you and acts towards the Au pair. 2. Lack of rights, agency doesn't want rematch between Au pair and HF-HF looses money is left without childcare for 2 weeks. 3. Au pair might be easily abused having 195.75$ a week with no food or child food-look at the agreement there is no amount of money that the HF should spend on Au pair. There is nothing about the cellphone, Internet, paying for transportation so she could go travel. 4. Au pair is expected not to be in the HF house for weekends or is not welcomed even for a dinner.

I worked at Au Pair in America for more than a year

    Pros

    - no need to worry about a place to stay, car, food, phone plan etc - extremely enriching experience - got to meet LOTS of super nice people doing the same job - quite a lot of support from the company (insurance, any work issues)

    Cons

    - leaving after living with a host family for 2 years and making friends was really hard - pays little - not that much independence since you live in someone else's house and there may be rules

I worked at Au Pair in America

    Pros

The organization did make sure that their Au Pairs did not work overtime or were being taken advantage of by certain families, which was great.

    Cons

The lady responsible for the Au Pair's in my area only cared about the host families, not so much about the Au Pair's. So it was a bit frustrating when one of us had a problem.

I worked at Au Pair in America for more than a year

    Pros

They help you find a new job in case things go wrong with your host family. Counselors will welcome you in their homes if necessary. They also help you with legal stuff such as getting a drivers license and SSN.

    Cons

Payment is low; there is littlw suppervision about what types of work a family ask the au pair to do.
