I have been working at Australian Taxation Office full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

The ATO offers the opportunity to do meaningful work that makes a difference to the lives of Australians. There is huge opportunity for growth and development, as well as flexibility and the ability to balance life and work.

    Cons

People at the ATO are passionate and committed, but can be slow to change - although the organisation's reinvention program has seen that improve in recent years.

I have been working at Australian Taxation Office full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Reasonable pay for the work required, generally a friendly place to work. Good benefits.

    Cons

Its common for the best person or most qualified to not get the job, quite alot of acting duties which don't eventuate into promotions due to the selection process. Promoting good talkers instead of those with proven ability.

    Advice to Management

Change the IT promotion process so you don't lose good people to other jobs which is becoming more frequent.

    Cons

I worked at Australian Taxation Office part-time for more than a year

    Pros

As with most government jobs, there's no rush here. Leaders are open and vulnerable and workload is satisfactory

    Cons

Didn't really see any bad points to this job apart from the fact that I was a part-time worker.

I have been working at Australian Taxation Office full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

Great people. Dispersed teams in most regions and an capital cities. This means there is often an office close to people’s home. There are issues with recruitment practices being seen as not merit based and taking too long.

    Cons

Slow at adopting new technology. Very adverse to risk and slow to innovate although they ar trying to make inroads in this area.

    Advice to Management

Forget hierarchy and be more agile.
