      Great part time job to have alongside studies. Pay is decent and holiday pay included.

      Store is open until 8 o’clock on a Saturday which seems unnecessary for a hardware store.

      Pros

      • Family-like working environment • 20% Staff Discount with B&Q and Screwfix • Their Sharesave and pension schemes are great • 6.6 weeks holidays pro rata • Flexible working • Company wide support system • Apprenticeship program is perfect for those who want to progress

      Cons

      • Poor wage for job role - No commission but were always regarded as "Sales Advisor" - nearly every other company that has a "sales" role has commission. It encourages people to be hungry for sales as there is a reward in it for them providing how good their service is, not giving that just allows people to be lazy as they still get paid the same whether they graft or not. • Every stores management is different - I enjoyed my time overall with B&Q, but only when you get the good managers, the ones that have the can-do attitude and encourage the team to do well (which was very more often than not). So if you have the managers with the right attitude, you will enjoy it. If you get ones with bad attitude, then avoid completely IMO.
