I have been working at B&Q full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Plenty of opportunity to develop yourself, welcoming and friendly staff atmosphere, loads of learning material for those who wish to read it, very encouraging team briefs, great support from certain management, all employees are like a big family.

    Cons

Working 3 saturdays out of 4, 9pm finishes for half the year, Christmas rota allowances change every year, holidays for following year are open to book from previous October ( can be hard to plan so far in advance).

    Advice to Management

Staff will land the plan if you look after the staff but over all management is very supportive.

    I have been working at B&Q full-time

    Pros

B&Q Store Support Office is home to such a friendly environment, I believe that there wouldn't be a better culture anywhere else. It's non-hierarchical which makes you feel really valued and reassures you that every colleague makes a difference. A work-life balance is encouraged and out of work commitments are supported which makes coming to work even more enjoyable. I've found that B&Q also support your aspirations, whether you want to develop in your current role or move teams.

    Cons

Not enough people know about the great variety of rewards and benefits that B&Q offer!

    I worked at B&Q part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    - Good pay compared to other comparable jobs
    - Easy to get overtime when I wanted it
    - Picked up useful DIY skills

    Cons

    - Work can be repetitive
    - Management's expectations of commitment from their mainly young, student workforce seemed unreasonably high
    - Sometimes difficult to get leave when overtime was expected of you, despite a low hours contract

    Advice to Management

Behave more honestly with young members of staff and be more open, rather than creating a management/workforce divide
