I have been working at BAE Systems UK full-time

    Pros

Flexible working and finish early on a Friday.
Employee offer very good (Wages/Pension/Leave etc).
Great bunch of people where I work.
Modern offices with great office facilities.

    Cons

Too many individuals have too much influence.
Difficult to get on with tasks - too many non-value added activities.

    Advice to Management

Focus on what we can do, not why we can't do stuff. Reduce non-value added politico/governance activities; push the idea of tailoring; empower leaders to challenge where tailoring is blocked.

I have been working at BAE Systems UK full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

As an engineer, the nature of the work and the problems that we face is incredibly interesting. We’re on the cutting edge of defense technology and no two days are the same. There is also a really good agile working policy, meaning that my work-life balance is pretty positive.

    Cons

The culture that is fostered here is pretty negative. The company are in a tough financial position with strong competition from new competitors. Instead of focussing on increasing productivity, the employees suffer - reduced / no pay rises, employees doing senior roles and not being rewarded for it / negative performance reviews that seem to be independent of the effort employees put in / redundancies.

    Advice to Management

There are so many inefficient processes that we operate under. Target those instead of targeting employees which creates low morale.

I have been working at BAE Systems UK full-time

    Pros

Working with some of the World's brightest minds in aerospace, defence and security on products and services that make a difference to those who protect us

    Cons

Pace of change can be frustratingly slow. The complexity of programmes and consensus driven culture makes delegated accountability opaque - at a time when we need agility, speed and performance management

    Advice to Management

Be bold and clear on new performance expectations and hold people to account

I have been working at BAE Systems UK full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

The company is large and offers a lot of opportunities to go and develop yourself
The pay is reasonable in some cases

    Cons

The politics are crazy, nothing ever seems to get done
The company is too slow moving and refuses to adapt to change
The company is still running most of it's departments like engineering departments and not how they should be run, they are too inflexible with change and refuse to change their thinking - this is not uncommon of a giant monolithic company
My performance review was sabotaged by management because the company didnt have enough money to award more than a certain number of people a bigger bonus at the end of the financial year (the difference between good and high performance was £75. not exactly a big deal) This was confirmed to me by managers who had left the job.
High turn around rate of young people because they are brought in and expected to be there for the rest of their life and never challenged properly.

    Advice to Management

Re-evaluate how you invest in younger employers, they are your future and you are letting them slip through your fingers like water.
