I have been working at BAE Systems UK full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

A great environment working on cutting edge technologies and products supporting the Royal Navy in their Carrier Group aspirations. Good package including leading pension, bonus and other benefits.

    Cons

    On-boarding.
Recognition of performance is confused, what does a high performer look like. Too many staff presumed as high performers when clearly not against their role/grade.
Equally when is someone high potential?

    Advice to Management

Top priority must be to sort out the on-boarding and IT issues.
Second priority would be to get ALL staff into a similar performance mindset, some still see themselves as High performers when no significant, consistent evidence to back it up.

I have been working at BAE Systems UK full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Flexible working hours. Good holiday entitlement. Strong Union presence means generous annual inflation pay increase across entire workforce. Fairly interesting work.

    Cons

Upper management hugely detached from the rest of workforce. Prioritise meeting metrics and short term targets rather than doing the job right first time. Lots of politics. High performance isn't rewarded through pay rises and/or promotion (despite having annual performance reviews). Lots of high performing employees move elsewhere, leaving huge voids and disruption.

    Advice to Management

    Retain high performing employees

I have been working at BAE Systems UK full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

If your face fits you can go right to the top

    Cons

If you have more knowlage than the person you work for they will bully and harras you up to the point you have no option but to call HR who will do nothing about it. They are also very proud of there ethics hotline which is also usless. There is a saying in the shipyard the less you know the higher you go or mess up enough and you will just get promoted to get them out of the way

    Advice to Management

Employ people in management positions who actually know what they are doing
