I have been working at BAE Systems UK full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Working with the most inspiring products such as fast jet aircraft. Working internationally on complex engineering projects. Working in an integrated team between engineering, supply chain, fleet planning to deliver a common goal.

    Cons

On complex projects it can take a while before visible benefits are seen. It is an environment where people often do not notice a well planned and structured approach because it "just works" however fire fighters are praised for solving big problems.

    Advice to Management

Sort out cultural/behavioural problems with change from the ground up not dictated downwards.

I worked at BAE Systems UK full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Leading edge thinking, robust practices and continuous evolution to innovate, leaders well trained and generally good employee relations. Opportunities to travel and work with other parts of the businesses and overseas. Very strong functions and clear routes to develop supported by solid training. Staff conditions generally very good and pay and benefits excellent. Strong safety culture and teamwork approaches. Also very strong project management across all disciplines.

    Cons

Complex and many things can take time to get approved due to the layers sometimes it can be frustrating. Many sites really adhere to project disciplines and approval routes that can stop local innovation.
Scale can be daunting to navigate at first

    Advice to Management

    Don’t hide behind processes

I have been working at BAE Systems UK full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Has a good reputation as an employer. Great if you are a skilled engineer or project manager. Exciting products and proud when you see a ship complete and being handed over to the Navy.

    Cons

Working in a political goldfish bowl makes it difficult to do your job sometimes. Constant changing goalposts. Benefits are not strong enough for a modern plc company. Holidays too rigid. Managers are a tough position to be in as you get squeezed from above and below and the rewards are not as good as you would get elsewhere.

    Advice to Management

Stop over promising and under delivering. Value all your people not just the favourites in your cliques. Do what you say you will do.
